@1lfu--- You are correct in your general statement but wrong in the application of what we are talking about. You are right in that states have their own unemployment rules and regs.

example: California where you live you can get unemployment and severance at the same time. In some other states you have to use your severance and then you can get unemployment.

But the question is who is "entitled" to severance. Severance is considered a benefit so a company is not required to pay severance. So the company is not required to pay severance to anyone, but if a company does pay severance they can make whatever rule they want as to who qualifies for severance.

So with saying that, Part timers do not qualify for severance. Even if you live in California or any other state you don't get severance under SHC's qualifications. If you do qualify for the severance then in California you can draw severance and unemployment at the same time or in other states you may have to use your severance up and then apply for unemployment. Hope this helps

Unemployment laws vary by state, so a blanket statement of "part timers won't get it is wrong". In CA, we get unemployment ALONG with the severance package

@rpb you don’t have to be rude to someone asking a question

It wd have taken the same amount of time to answer as it did to post such a rude comment

Anyone who believes that they will get severance when Sears goes under hasn't been paying attention to how this company operates.

Only full-timers with more than a year employment. They get one week for every year employed up to 8 weeks max. Management get a little more. Part timers do not get severance

I believe what has been said is that unless you are full time you won't get any kind of severance nor even unemployment.

I'm getting a lot of posts on severance when I search but none of them has the info I'm looking for. Is it that hard to type it out?
