Dude chill out and do what you are being paid for then call it a day. A dollar for a dollar. Contrary to success and motivational books, do not do more. Of you do a 120%, someone else will need to do 80% only and you both gets the same reward! Or that person gets more if they are more visible which is usually the case. extra 20% time can be spent brown nosing.

Japanese leadership asks for forgiveness, bow and most resigns if they mismanaged. US leadership desperately finding excuses/blames and layoff to cover up the cost. Japanese innovate, US acquires companies, then layoffs to cut costs. Japanese leadership considers employees as part of the family. US leadership consider employees are fooders - objects that can be sacrificed and a tool to easily controlling the variable costs. Look at US president vs Japan Prime Minster/s. If the US companies want to learn, start from the top.

Dell's heritage is not about producing things like the Japanese. The main innovation of Dell was is the logistics and supply chain. Mediocre and cheap employees are more than enough for such a company.
