Centurylink vs Level 3 layoffs

Just did a job with a Level 3 tech and he tells me, i hear they are hitting "you guys" hard with layoffs. I said, well we are all one company now, so i am not sure where you get the you guys comment. In talking further, it turns out L3 has hardly hit their workforce and we at CTL are the ones getting cut.

I laughed at some of the comments before i talked to this guy, but now it is clear as others have posted - instead of a merger, we at CTL have been taken over and are now being run by L3 and operated as L3 but just under the CTL name.

If more CTL employees are getting laid off (There is no proof of that.) Its probably because L3 has always run very lean with employees. Layoffs have always been common at Level 3 so there aren't many left to lay off. It is common for Level 3 to layoff too many employees and then pressure the one's who stay to do more work with ZERO training or compensation.

Get use to the Level 3 way.

It seems CTL failed to keep up with the most recent trends in evolving technologies so they now have a work force that's aged, untrained and hence unequipped to keep up with the level 3 employees from a technology perspective. The days of land lines, circuit switched and to some large extent DSL and cable technologies are quickly becoming a thing of the past. If you don't have experience in converged technologies i.e. IP, Sonus, and Sonnet technologies as well as circuit switched technologies, most of which are highly IT driven from a knowledge perspective, your days are numbered in the telecom industry. Level 3 has also lost quite a few people recently but it's likely you won't hear about it as a CTL employee.

You heard right, CTL employees are being let go a Level3 employees are taking over all those positions. There will be no end until 80% of all CTl employees are let go

All I heard for the last year regarding all projects was "lack of funding". Seems it went to Glenn's golden parachute.

The company is sliding, executives are skimming the money they can before it sinks entirely.

More layoffs, more lost customers, lower profits, less gear and technology, more contracting as needed. It's starting a major decline.

I'm thankful for my years there and now I'm thankful for the layoff. I was so focused on doing my job and getting measly 2% raises that I missed the bigger money elsewhere. Which I'm now VERY thankful for.

Good luck to those hard workers that have been there forever, your days seem to be numbered.

BYE Felicia.

Blame your former leadership. Allowed workforce to get bloated and expenses to rise, should have cut on own long ago. Residential is unimportant, not as profitable, and unfortunately folks in those areas not needed.

Current strategy is best for shareholders. Based on comments here, would rather see L3 folks stay because they understand the company strategy rather than whining like the company owes something. Got paid for what you did, never guaranteed a job.

Who ever heard of holiday bonus at a large company nowadays??? What a joke, good it got eliminated.

There are other jobs out there and you should have saved for a rainy day. America has become so weak and crybaby.

I've only heard of CTL RIF's and not any L3 RIF's. 30+ last week that I know of and today 1/3 of the department I was in including myself. I know I was a risk with over 30 years. Zero pay increases since the L3 merger was announced last year. Sadly, legacy US WEST/Qwest/CTL customers will also be impacted negatively by the L3 take over of CTL.

Glenn Post’s legacy will be that he sold out the employees of the company he supposedly thought so much of. Clarke Williams is probably dizzy from rolling over in his grave so much since Glenn took the money & ran. Thanks a lot Glenn!!!

I have been with Centurylink for 30 years and now it is time to go. Level3 managers are arrogant bullies. They totally took over and treat the Centurylink employees like crap. We got thrown to the wolves. We had to take on some of their tasks but not one level3 employee has stepped up to help us out. That's what is going on in my area and and other areas. I have been working in the industry for 50 years and been through many mergers. The Centurylink employees are being laid off but not Level3. I have never seen anything as bad as this. Good luck legacy Centurylink employees.
