Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel adamantly denies ageism allegations

I'm positively shocked that Intel is not coming out and saying "yes, we did it, we laid off older employees who earned more to replace them with cheaper - but usually incompetent - workers."

In any organization there are those in any race or gender who are hard workers as well as those that skate by on everyone else's accomplishments. I have worked across many projects over my 20+ years, and I've worked with many great people as well as many who did nothing but dragged down the team. I keep reading about getting rid of the old people because they feel entitled, they know how to scam the system, etc etc. From my perspective, the longer you're at Intel, the harder you have to prove your worth, especially if you've been in your grade for a long time. Most older people I worked with has withstood the test of time and we're by far the most efficient members of the team. What Intel did in 2016, wasn't getting rid of dead weight, but rather it was a large brain drain that they're paying for now. Many of those forced into leaving had contributed a lot to Intel's success. I'm sure we all have stories of d---beats and many of them are still in Intel, but I would never lump everyone who was let go as deserving. Many were/are high performing individuals.

Ok to pay a fine but get rid of more who don't do much work. The culture change is needed. Revenue growth will be way more than the fines.

There are still some old timers left who work few hours a day. Need more fresh out of college instead who are hungry to learn and want to work.

Lol! You guys are pathetic and hilarious!

ACT released dozens of Grades: 7/8/9 employees who were doing nothing but s---ing the company dry. The vast majority of these freeloaders would come in at 10 am and leave at 3:30 or 4:00 pm. They were easily being outperformed by hungry and motivated GR 5 & 6 employees. The long-time employees considered themselves entitled since they had seniority and Intel had no history of layoffs due to performance. Because Intel had never done it on a large scale before, these higher grades assumed they wouldn't be let go. HA! IT finally caught up with them. Just because an employee spent 20 years at a company, it doesn't give them the right to s--- said company dry. Each employee has to keep working hard, every single day - Just like the rest of us. GET OVER IT. The EEOC will find NOTHING expect evidence of low performance and a justification to be let go.

EEOC, request HR memos instructing removal of words like ‘young’ and ‘recent’ that coincided with the massive 2016 layoffs where the data heavily shows the older you were, the higher the probability of getting pushed out. If Intel does not share, we will make it available to tou. This was and is intentional. Intel is self insured and while a sr. engineer makes more, he/she doesnt make that much more base salary than a young person, but their healthcare costs are higher. in past times, Intel did lay off, but it was about sizing the company workforce. Under BK it is much more brazen, we had massive layoffs with similar yearend headcounts. It was / is age based. HR parrots it was due to Intel’s ‘transformation’, yet cant precisely describe why a 51 year old with a masters in computer science cant learn the very same mundane programming language skills that a young hire has. Is Python and R that hard, really? I hope EEOC NAILs BK.

Here are some ED cases pending and some resolved. For those of us impacted there’s hope Intel will have to defend its actions in court....

It seems obvious to all internals that this has been happening along with forced diversity at the expense of some, but why would you ever think that Intel would come out and say it?
