Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Is Augusta. Maine the next Kmart on the chopping block?

I went shopping today at the Augusta Kmart and noticed stickers on some of the merchandise shelves that said "Fixture for sale, not included in store clearance." These were still stocked with merchandise. Is this a sign that the store will soon close?

I know that I'm preaching to the choir but the only way to properly paint anything metal is to clean off all stickers and residue, sand it down, sand off all the rust completely and apply primer, letting it dry before painting. Whenever I paint metal I swab the piece down with a clean rag dampened with rubbing alcohol before applying primer to remove fine debris and grit from sanding. I think that is a key step even though most others just brush/blow off the debris.

Just haphazardly painting those shelves without doing these steps would be a huge waste of time and a futile attempt. The masterminds behind Clean and Bright must have never taken a shop class. The paint will bubble, crack and rust will form underneath. Better off not going through the trouble and not painting at all.

Of course it may cost a little extra to do it the right way and it would take some time versus spritzing it with a coat of spray paint willy nilly, but if you do something, you should do it once and do it right the first time.

I wonder what Bob Vila would think?

Painting shelves!!! Ha, Ha, Ha. Our shelves are so rusty and dented you probably couldn't paint them without them falling apart. I'm just waiting for someone to get hurt when one of the rusty shelves gives out and falls on someone.

Our store manager acutally did ask the DM about painting the selves a few years ago and was told there is no budget for anything extra---- even safety issues.

It is actually going to be announced here in the next couple of months the lease is up and the landlord wants the property back.

Painting? LOL we barely have enough people to make the store function day in and day out and now you want us to paint.

They should've at least painted over them if they couldn't get the stickers off, lol. They paint over all sorts of other random crud they don't bother to clean off when repainting shelves anyway. Not pretty, but better than making people wonder if they're closing.

No LOL. It just means that the store never removed the sticker when they bought the fixture from a nearby closing store. My store does this all the time and most of the time the damn stickers won’t come off. It’s actually extremely tacky, but it is Kmart.
