Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Server sell cancelled? NXP shaky?

Anyone know what the status of the Server is? Ampere is rumored to have backed out HXT is up in arms about the sneaky selling of Server which they thought they had or at least had potential to get.

And somehow it seems that the HXT aggravation is tying into the completion of the NXP deal.

Ultimately it seems like SM and company have overly screwed up. Seems like the smarter play would have been to spin off Server with a kick back to the originator (QC). QC making moves so they can hit the 5G and IoT buzzwords, but not actually thinking about how to make $.

Yeah, apply to NVIDIA or M$ like everyone else. Q is dead in the area. I feel sorry for the bastards left holding the bag.

Msft is hiring in RTP for their Quantum computing project.

Is MSFT hiring engineers in Bay Area or RTP? QCOM is f*$ked. I bet SM would start a new CPU team again in a few years.

What is the latest update on any deal to sell the Server division ?

CPU Design Sr. Director and CPU Architects have left for Msft. What about other folks - is everyone just waiting for good outside opportunities ? Or do people still hope that QDT will exist in some form in the near future ?

Lead engineers and upper mgmt are all leaving for MSFT. Q really screwed up. Why even announce at all until the deal is done? Anybody good is gone. Anybody who stays to support HXT will do it until something better comes along. Huge disaster from the flagship custom ARM days. Huge disaster.

Yeah if top talent is bailing, then my suggestion is to bail as well. No point in being the one holding the keys to the sinking ship. Q will likely scramble to fill seats and try to keep it afloat. But those fillers won't likely be top talent. Expect to work you butt off.

@2rti that is exactly what happened. this proves QC execs are bunch of idiots who have no idea how to do their jobs.

The exec team screwed up big time. 1) had a very competitive product that would help diversification, no staying power. 2) AC had a deal to spin out, GD screwed him. 3) Ampere wants the team but now China pissed off. 3) other companies pulling key QDT talent away, NVDA, MSFT, APPL. 4) will not be able to support HXT because key folks leaving. 5) Execs now thinking they need to keep several hundred people for Firetail China & putting retention bonus in place. Q execs are really screwed up!

Plain and simple: QCOM gutted QDT in order to get NXP acquisition approved.

They had a good deal on the table with Ampere (most employees would get an offer) but axed it so they could sweeten things with China. China >> 1000 employees' career.

All the qdt server ip will be in hxt's hands and hxt arm server chips (hxt logo package with firetail inside) will flouish in its domestic market with the help of their government. What did QC get after spending billions of dollars of investment? Nothing. What did US gain on preventing intellectual property being stolen by China, Nothing either. Thanks SM.

"A" is not pressing that much. They sent a bunch of LinkedIn recruiting emails, but according to their recruiter that are not planning on opening an office in RTP.

Talk about a disaster. Rumor is that SM, GD and CA screwed up a done deal to spin off QDT, and wound up with a whole bunch of nothing. Wish I had details of the original deal that they borked up.

NXP deal is to be approved https://www.google.co.in/amp/s/www.wsj.com/amp/articles/china-set-to-approve-qualcomm-purchase-of-nxp-semiconductors-1527333552

"A" is in full throttle to get server folks onboard but the transition is taking time. And they are pressuring to complete faster and not happy about it.
