Elizabethtown Sears closing

If we continue to get one new announcement every day, how long will it take to close all Kmart and Sears stores to close without much pomp and nobodyreally noticing?

The Jefferson Mall store and property was recently sold to the mall with a 300,000 dollar buyout. That means the mall can pay Sears to get out. D--k's Sporting Goods was wanting that store at one time and the mall wanted Sears to move into the old Macys store but it was recently announced that it was being turned into a family entertainment center.

The Jefferson Mall store in nearby Louisville is almost certainly closing too... eventually. And by eventually, I don't mean "we know all Sears stores are closing," but the mall management recently announced that they would be revealing "exciting new redevelopment plans" for the Sears space in the mall in the upcoming months. Sears hasn't announced that they would be leaving but I don't see how they would fit into something like that unless they plan to dramatically downsize the store (it is one of those larger 2 story mall stores built in the 70s so downsizing is possible, but I doubt Sears has any interest in that here).

Somewhere around 800 days.

We're in the "quiet collapse," where nobody knows or cares what happens until or unless it personally affects them. Sears is a microcosm of that same dynamic. No reports, no media, just a quiet, ongoing collapse where stores close and people lose jobs little by little.

This isn't all about Sears either. With 40 million Americans on food stamps, and tens of millions who never "recovered" from 2008, this has been happening across the nation while the media tells us how the "economy is booming!." And so long as it doesn't personally affect someone, they believe it.
