Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

Question about short gap in health insurance in US.

I know that I will be WFR'd this week, and my last day is Friday, May 18

I already have another job lined up, beginning May 29.

I don't expect any medical needs, so I wasn't going to bother signing up for COBRA since there will only be a 10 day gap, and I'll already have coverage with the new company by the time DXC sends me the paperwork for COBRA. Will this be a problem come tax time? Will I pay a penalty for not having insurance for those 10 days?

If this has been discussed in earlier threads, feel free to mock me but please post a link.

Thanks to both of you! I had forgotten about the repeal, but it's good to know there's a form just in case I have to declare anything about the gap.

Individual mandate was repealed so no tax penalty. You are covered retroactively for 30 days if something happens but if not just start new insurance with no cobra payment.

You can gain an exemption from any lack of coverage penalty assuming the lapse is less than 3 months in total. (Excemption code B, coverage lapse of less than 3 months)
