Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Age a liability at Schlumberger

It seems that every new layoffs round makes it more and more clear that older workers (those in our late forties and fifties) are expandable in the eyes of the management.

Every single time we lose more people in that age bracket even if we are the ones who actually posses the needed knowledge and experience to keep this place running.

I just hope those making these decisions realize this will be their downfall.

Actually youth is a liability at Schlumberger. It is much more difficult for young people with little experience to get laid off. This is discrimination and unfair to the younger employees.

It’s funny that the op thinks this is some sort of earth shattering revelation.

HAL are losers no one cares what they do

HAL keep ahead of SLB by keeping experience in place for many years. SLB is always moving people around. They actually think it helps. 2 years in a role is average. That is also why the average retention is 5 years. To much like being back in college there.

Repeat — Getting laid off may cause disruptions in life but it is not the end of the world ! If you worry about it, while still having a job, save money, most importantly don’t live beyond your means!

In the past, experience was important but not anymore. Now, technology is the principal player and over time AI will displace a lot of people. If you work like a robot you will be replaced by one so the best thing is to move into areas where AI will find it more difficult to penetrate.......they are obvious.

If you are still employed with slb, chances you have some strong connection with management is very high so you won't be laifoff,if not, then hear me out when I say getting laid off from slb or any other company isn't end of the world

If you're over 40 without connection, sooner or later, you'll be laid off from SLB.

Layoffs, then you worry until you have a stroke. Master plan at work. Good luck if you are still there.

Don’t expect a service company to look after your interests. They won’t. They are only interested in their interest, their profit and their business plan. If that means you don’t fit in the plan they kick you out and any hardship is your problem. Market capitalism rocks!

When we are an employee, our age, health, family status... All are liabilities

Leave healthy and don't rely on your jobbas single source of income.

I think that is obvious. Most older workers are indeed expandable. Drives up health care costs.
