Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Just got the word today our Sears store is closing. What is the closing timeline and what should we expect? Thanks.

@1oqo From https://www.thelayoff.com/t/Tw2BrBa : "Only full-timers with more than a year employment [get any severance]. They get one week for every year employed up to 8 weeks max. Management get a little more. Part timers do not get severance"

@nio - My 40+ years with Sears ended when our store was liquidated, however, it was not that bad of an experience. From other comments I've read on this site a lot of it depends on the attitude of your liquidator and your store management. The person who ran our liquidation was very personable and our store management maintained a positive attitude and was very supportive. The worst part was saying our final goodbyes to our Sears family; the tears really flowed then!

Yes, health benefits continue till your last pay or severance check. The Affordable Care Act can be a source for health insurance when your benefits end. It could be less expensive than COBRA. Hopefully, you will be able to line up a new job with benefits before your last check from SHLD.

Approx. 3 mo. Lots of hours but it’s the worse thing I had to go through in my 39 years with Sears. You will be glad to see it end!

Do health benefits continue till closing? We are a stand alone B Sears store.

Usually the liquidation begins around 2-3 weeks after the announcement, and lasts for about 2 months. You'll probably get a lot more hours/pay than you normally do, until it ends.
