I knew some associates won't mind volunteering to leave but heard they won't give out severance if they volunteered. They feel like they got stuck with a sinking ship.

"My only concern is that if Sears files for chapter 7 or 11 before the 20 weeks severance ends"

That takes you until just before Thanksgiving. I think the company will at least make it through one more holiday season, so you'll probably get all your payments. People who get hit with future rounds of layoffs might not be so fortunate.

Two middle managers in our team of ten lost their jobs today. Heard each got a severance package, that's a good thing. Not sure if they get a week of pay for each year of service or not and what about owed vacation day? Those left to turn off the lights probably will receive nothing.

This happened to me this morning like it has to many others thru the years. After hearing all the stories from others before me it pretty much happened as they said. I had 24 years in Hoffman. I was going to retire by the end of the year anyway so I can get the lump sum (before Feb 2019). As the other person said, I was getting tired of all the layoffs and the uncertainty that goes along with it. I read all the papers I was given, some important facts

  1. if you sign the waver you cannot file a grievance against Sears

  2. they can stop the severance at any time

  3. if you find a job during severance you have to notify them they- they might claw back some of your severance

  4. they won't contest unemployment claims unless you were fired for cause

  5. contributions to Sears saving plan (401k) are stopped as are LTD premiums

Maybe a lot of this is fairly standard ..not sure, first time I have been through it... just make sure you read everything carefully... you have to send in the waver within 45 days or forfeit severance

My only concern is that if Sears files for chapter 7 or 11 before the 20 weeks severance ends, it could possibly affect it. I knew working here was risky and I knew this could happen.

Sorry to hear about the stress at Sears. I worked there from 94 to 2004 - the lay off stress was no different then. Getting out of there was the best move I ever made

@tdm - make sure your swamp is not stinky first before pointing your finger

@tdm How is laying off IT people, who keep the systems running -- sales reports, inventory, etc. -- helpful? Not sure how those people are "swamp."

Sources say half of IMX will be let go today. It's already begun.

Yeah , it's a shame. But it would stand to reason that with the store count gutted and the operation streamlined, headquarters was going to be hit again

Best of luck to all

The stress that everyone is under waiting to find out if they still have a job is just ridiculous. I’m praying for those that lose their jobs... any of us could be next...
