Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Seagate missed its chance

I worked at Seagate 28 years and it had it's ups and downs as any industry does when it has such a rapid turnover of products due to their short production times. Overall, I think the quality of people I worked with was exceptional, the morale was high, and the pay was great for the area I was in. Unfortunately, as in all businesses, all it takes is one technological breakthrough to make or break a company... and unfortunately this last one was by another company. I saw it online as it was announced, and knew the end was near. Sure enough, the layoffs started a year later, and a year after that I was cut, I think at the 3rd major layoff. All in all, I loved working for the company and was sad to see my time there end. I still keep up with those with and now outside of the company, and now that's I'm once more employed, try to help them as much as I can. It's sad watching it self destruct as it's currently doing...

That is what happens when you put lazy people in charge.

Well yeah.....but if they can maintain the dividend, that's all that matters.

Seagate will probably shrink to a small company with very very small profit margins. This is because they thought they knew better and the sheer arrogance is ultimately going to be their downfall. They thought the knew better than anyone and how other companies would shrivel and die and Seagate could usurp them.

I was with Seagate in OKC for 3 years...and yes, it is very sad to see the company go down the way it has.
