Thread regarding IBM layoffs

What to do before returning equipment?

I'm in the March class, so last day is Weds (1.5 days, woop woop!). Does anyone wipe/reset their laptop before returning it or will that cause issues or severance denial? I guess the Notes email and all that is their property or at least they feel it is? The iPad I'll reset for sure. Not sure if I have to return the iPhone since it was the freebie one. Recommend a good windows 10 file/freespace/recycle bin eraser?

Do not listen to anyone who tells you not to wipe it. They are completely wrong.

That goes against everything we learned at IBM and they know better than to ask that from anyone.

If you reference those good old SARM training videos you will see that wiping is the SOP before returning or destroying/disposing all equipment with IBM and client data on it.

My advice

Do a good DOD wipe with Darik's or Cleanwipe tool so nothing will ever point back to you.

You cannot trust what will happen with your equipment once you are gone so protect yourself.

At this stage of the game who gives a F if you upset someone.

When I returned my laptop, the instructions the IT dept sent me explicitly instructed me how to wipe it before returning it. And if you don't, they will re-image it as soon as they receive it. IBM is much more concerned about accidentally coming into possession of any personal files or unlicensed software you put on there than they are about retrieving useful contents.

Before you wipe it, though, spare a thought for any colleagues left behind. Don't make their lives needlessly difficult just to get in a parting shot.

Yes, you want to wipe historical information from your laptop. I recommend "Darik's Boot and Nuke". Regarding Iphone, check with your manager. If the Mgr says to keep it, GET IT IN WRITING.. Also, confirm in writing the number of vacation days you will get. Hopefully, you've used all your PC days up.
