Thread regarding Barnes & Noble Inc. layoffs

Key sentence from the earnings call

Parneros said on a conference call that profit improvements for Barnes & Noble will come largely from cost reductions.

This means that we are looking at more layoffs and more closings, most likely as soon as the next month. That is the best and quickest way to cut costs.

I'm just worried right now if severance is going to become a victim to this as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see it either slashed or completely eliminated.

they are moving toward more third party services. next will be a company to take care of trade returns. they do this under the guise of helping the booksellers engage customers but in reality the company is selling out parts of the store piecemeal to bidders. the music department third party premium service cost bn nothing, it was covered by the companies providing them with the product. this is what a company does before it liquidates. they will lie to you right up until they cut your position, which, guaranteed, they will. managers are not safe. wait until the end of the summer when the next layoffs happen with no severance packages. bn is a terribly mismanaged company that has been floundering for too long to ever recouperate. someone warned you in February to get out. heed that advice.

Yes. They got rid of DAYFORCE to save money. They went back to old style paper schedule posted on bulletin board. Guess to have to submit vacations and day offs on slips of paper like the dark ages. HAHAHA. I remember them saying how DAYFORCE was the future and how this is the way ALL businesses were doing scheduling. "GET USE TO IT!" they said to anyone complaining.

B&N = Backwards & Nowhere

I believe it. My friend, who still works for Barnes & Noble, said that they got rid of Dayforce (the scheduling system) and are going back to just writing the schedule down. That probably saves them quite a bit of money, but it also makes things incredibly inconvenient.

Things are really going to sh--. Glad I got out when I had the chance.

Anyone still with Health Benefits will be the first to go unless you are management. They can't afford another severance package payout with the current losses. Possible is a month or less of severance.

1800 people trusted them in February, and look what happened?

They don't care about any of you. I'm surprised you people still work as hard as we did. You'll be fired with NOTHING.

If you're smart, you're already on your way to your new REAL job!

Do you guess want facts or just a venue to vent? Informed persons are posting and you don't believe them.

There are other ways to cut costs....

There's another thread saying that severance will no longer be offered with layoffs, so it wouldn't surprise me if they go through with it.
