Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Demographics

Anybody feels like AT&T is being destroyed by a bunch of millennials with no experience and very little knowledge?

I'm not saying they are all the same, but this seems to be the demographic that is taking over the company, and I don't see it working out in any way, shape or form.

Anybody else thinks we need some of those older employees back to get us out of this situation?

Someone here on this thread really gulped down the kool aid. They sound like someone that should be sent straight up into upper management if not there already since they’re just as out of touch as leadership today

This is the corporation maximizing profit by outsourcing, layoffs and speed up. AT&T may have the same rights as a citizen but it has no soul or conscience. The old versus young, field versus office, men versus women spew is just a distraction.

Creating new jobs for India in AT&Ts case.

Oh and bring in cheap labor FROM India on H1B.

Don't blame "Changes in technology" for this policy. It's finding the cheapest way and making excuses for it. All for the stock and executive bonuses. Period.

The industry is changing. Call centers, retail, online, everything around is evolving at rapid pace. Automation is creating new jobs (developers, auditors, compliance, regulators, instructors) while replacing existing repetive roles. Think about it like this, a grocery store is openning multiple lanes through self service check out. Which would be a best approach? 1-learn about the system,

Software, mechanics, usage, whatever you want to call it or.... 2- Complain cashier jobs aren't being filled, call leadership all kinds of names, or...3-strike (literally stop working while automation replaces part of the tasks you perform).

STOP MAKING EXCUSES. START ADAPTING, LEARNING, FIND A WAY TO WIN.

At the end of the day if your job becomes surplus what have you done to make another company want to hire you?

Those young wire tech fellas know tip from ring ok reckin but theys slow as mollassis when it gets cold in these here parts. They can’t finish a job without somebody comin to help em. Thats the way the managers want it I guess.

I meant most educated. Per the cited pew research below.

For the past 30-40 years the Baby’s boomers dominated the cohort of America. As they have aged and progressed in life, the millennial generation (much larger that Gen X) now dominates that cohort.

So yes, In every aspect of your American life, not just at AT&T, Baby Boomers are being replaced by Millennials. If you are a Baby Boomer, you will continue to see products, services, policies, opinions emerge in your everyday life that you will like less and less. This increases as millennial s make up more of the leadership positions in our political, religious, corporate, and community institutions.

The work force should represent the customer base. So as Baby Boomers represent less and less of the customer base, Ideally, the workforce should reflect that too. Just like a company of Pet Supply products would be best served by a workforce of pet lovers/owners

Millennials may face this same shift as a larger demographic develops behind it. However, Millennials are to date the most educated generation, and as levels of education increases, birth rates decrease.

Not to get off topic, but for the continued long term success of this country (50-60yrs and beyond), this is why immigration reform and growing our countrys labor force is so important, because we’ve stopped growing it the old fashion way. At least not at the same rate we used to.

So they can build the wall, just make sure we install some large gates to open up.

As others have pointed out, numerous times, it’s the incompetent leadership that doesn’t have a clue. I don’t think it’s one specific generation group or the other. The folks being selected to run things couldn’t get hired doing the jobs of the people they manage because THEY lack the skills to do those jobs. They then tell us, we need to expand our skills and take all these 2020 classes. Only thing that matters is you speak well, have good social skills, and know the right folks. I’m sorry, but if you are my boss, you should know more than me. Fortunately some of the new leaders that are external hires know their stuff (some, not all). Those folks give me some hope.

I was laid off from AT he "supervised." Some of my younger coworkers openly made fun of me for being "old."

Happy now that I'm with a company that appreciates experience. It hires based on competence, not age, and has smart, innovative people of all ages. I'm working with some younger people, and we're learning from each other, not insulting each other.

AT&T in my office is being ruined by FMLA,, just because you can be off 2-3 days per week doesn't mean you have to take it. We once had a good office in Huntsville, Alabama. We had hard workers but it is slowly going downhill.

This company is in the hands of managers that have never done the work, and try to function inside a system where they are separated by physical and emotional distance from their peers and workers. No company in America is run this way.Any wonder everything at the ground level is a mess? Good job Uncle Randall !!!

1-The company is not being “destroyed”

2-Innovation can’t be tied to just one age group

3-Excuses won’t move you forward

4-By now you probably checked out. Made up excuses and can only believe someone shortcomings are not a contributor to someone’s proactive approach to grow.

what bothers me is their lack of respect for anyone in either gen x or older. "leadership" has always s---ed here - no matter what age they are. They have always been very out of touch and paid to be that way - they just want to abuse whomever is underneath them and keep their headcount numbers to justify their position. whatever it takes to keep their kids in private schools i guess.

The problem is the incompetent upper management and middle management with the outdated landline background

Hey! The millennial's are so important that they need to have their phone in their face most of the time while operating a 3500 pound vehicle at 70 mph. No need to pay any phuking attention to the task at hand, right?

I "hate" it when we see them in the ditch and the troopers are checking their phone after the "accident".

Stop trying to blame T’s troubles on workers I can imagine the generation you replaced also blamed you for its troubles. The problem is it’s incompetent management.

AT&T is being destroyed from the inside out by incompetent leadership that invests in dying technologies and companies. DirecTV and Time Warner are old tech. Are they still worth something? Perhaps. We need more fresh, younger blood in leadership that understands what the next generation wants and needs. If we retain our current leadership this titanic of a company won’t turn in time before hitting the ice berg.
