I've been told that the printer batteries are no longer available. I don't know if that's actually true or just a cop-out to avoid having to buy new batteries. It is possible that the batteries are NLA since those printers are over 15 years old, easily.
I would think that surplus printers and batteries are warehoused somewhere, at least the ones that are still functional, because all IT equipment from a closing store must be shipped to the SHC IT dispostion center and none of it gets liquidated or thrown away. I know that registers are collected and put in storage so that if a store needs to replace an existing system that cannot be repaired by NCR, they ship out a replacement register.
I've heard that corporate IT actually charges the store for sending extra or replacement equipment (our CEO has been known to pit different parts of the company against each other, so it's plausible), so store managers are going to be reluctant to add to their expenses unless they really have to, since they are told to cut back and spend nothing.
