Thread regarding McDermott International Inc. layoffs

CPI = budget cuts and staffing reductions

As a former long term McDermott employee who survived the MPI program but not the FTG program here’s a little translation for all the new McDermott employees formerly CB&I.

They announced the CPI program about the time I was made redundant.

This is a continuation of the staffing cuts they have been aggressively pursuing over the last 5 years. Do more with less. If you have followed the CFO’s comments to the investment community he is looking to cut 200-400 MUSD annually from the new combined company. Most of which will be payroll. Good luck.

CFO ask CEO what if we train our people and they leave?

CEO if we don't train them I will get a bigger bonus. We are not into this for the long haul.

Engineers are legally obligated to speak strictly in acronyms and have an inflated sense of self importance. Good times.

A pig just flew by my window. It had two engineering degrees as well.

You must have a BSMME - Bachelor of Science in Mickey Mouse Engineer. Especially if you think engineers are easy to replace. Must of come from CB&I, how did that mentality work out for them?

CMS is like a bad design. Looks good on paper but it just does not work.

The only thing CB&I had worth anything at the end was technology and SPS.

I guarantee I am a more accomplished engineer than you. You’re just jealous of my 2 engineering degrees. Maybe one day if you work super hard you’ll get a second engineering degree (but probably not)

Are you smart enough to know if it wasn't for engineers you would not have a job?

When people become widgets a company has no value.

If you think engineers are easy to replace, look at CB&I. How is Lutech and CMS working out? Look at the quality of engineers? I bet over half of them do not even have a engineering degree from a credit college in the US. Do you have an engineering degree? Let me answer that for you, NO! You are not smart enough.

Engineers are easy to replace. They are not unique or special.

CFO will cut so many corners you will be going in circles. Cut the overhead not the meat.

When you have the overhead telling the engineers what to do, you have a problem. There is a reason not everyone can get a engineering degree. You better treat your engineers with respect are you will be in the same boat as CB&I.

Like OMG - you got Stewie all wrong. Like he just wants us to all get along and help out the economy. You need to drive to do that.

I enjoy uncertainty and the constant threat of layoffs as long as I get my low pay and minimal benefits. Is there a point where things stabilize, get better and we are rewarded? Or will Dr Mengele's sociopathetic experiments in how much sh-- a human can take keep on?

This is the problem with bean counters, all they want to do is cut. How has that been working out? Ask CB&I.

Cut the executives salaries, how stupid do you think we are?

Before long we will have been so much with so little, they will want us to do something with nothing.
