K-Mart Asset Protection Associate stabbed at Visalia store dies from his injuries

This is the potential situation that each AP associate/manager could be dealing with when we make contact with each person. We're tasked with apprehending people and being able to safely bring them through a store and back to an office to sit down and wait until true law enforcement arrives. Once you approach this person they might make that split fight or flight decision based on the fact that their freedom might be in danger of they come with you. We aren't armed and they very well may be. If we're lucky, they just run away. If we're unlucky, we possibly end up like the late Mr. Campbell here.

Please have some respect for the AP associate/manager in your store if you're lucky enough to still have one. Our payroll has been cut so much that most stores don't have AP staffing and the ones that do either have 1 person or low enough hours that whoever there is usually alone. Our jobs are more dangerous than ever but it's the job we were hired to do.

So whether your AP person is cleaning up a biological mess that a member left on the fitting room floor, apprehending a shoplifter, or like in this case being asked to escort a mentally ill/nuisance customer out of the store... show some respect.

Hopefully a crowd funding initiative will be put together for Mr. Campbell's family soon.

@T7wfGgl-usb Very sad situation that could have been avoided if the store was properly staffed. I guarantee the legal system will definitely make sure Kmart and Sears Holdings takes care of this employee's family especially since it happened in California. It will be settled quietly out of court to avoid Kmart being exposed for their poor employee relations and poor business practices.

Devastating! Kmart employees. ( and retail employees in general )should get more respect. They do very hard work day in and day out. Every job in society is something to be proud of. I think society would be better if people weren't too proud to do an honest days work whatever the job. Kmart has great employees and that's why I continue to have faith that Kmart will stage a major turnaround!! Eddie should make sure this employees family is well taken care of!!
