Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Amazon Tire "Deal"

So now people can buy tires from Amazon and Sears will install them. So what's the deal worth, about $15 a tire? If the buyer trusts Sears (you have to be pretty knowledgeable to buy tires on Amazon, so not looking good there) and happens to live within reasonable distance of a Sears Auto Center (of which maybe around 300 hundred remain?)

Ummmmmmmm - the thought of running the risk of someone other than a qualified technician installing the tires I buy from Amazon is not worth it. And don't you believe for one second that Sears would not resort to sticking any warm body (i.e., cashier, floor person) to do the job, because of lack of payroll. No thanks, I'll go somewhere else.

Does Sears have an exclusive on tire installation with Amazon? If not, what's to stop Firestone, Pep Boys, Tire Kingdom, etc. from also cutting a deal? Sounds like a great way for Amazon to extend their reach into brick and mortar retailers without investing a dime.

This doesn't apply to all auto centers, it is only 48 rooftops in 8 major metro areas. A fart in tornado would be more noticeable.

Nobody has to load tires in their car for this. Amazon will automatically offer an option to people who live near (I don't know how near) one of the remaining Sears Auto locations to have the tires shipped directly to Sears Auto, and people will prepay the installation fee (I don't know how much) through Amazon.

You mean like Tire Rack who has dozens of small shops in any given area, plus Firestone?

My question is, does Sears have an exclusive agreement? Or will Amazon be free to do the same with every other tire shop?

@T5Lag6D-jxj This pretty much somes whats going to happen. Why would you go your way to drive miles when you have a Walmart, Discount tires, Costco near you probably ya this won't work well...

Good way to hype up the stock honestly.

Stores will be held responsible for up selling warrenties and add on services and the whole thing is only going to further erode internal goodwill. It most likely will appeal to niche customers and super cheapskates. Speed and weight safety rating dodgers will be another ball of fun.

I'm guessing half the customers won't leave happy, some we legally won't be able to do but will get stuck with the special order inventory. Others will be fine. But internally some fool will attach unobtainable numbers to hit.

Yay

Wait until they find out they have drive 20 miles from closest Sears to have tires installed. I don’t see this working well.
