Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Not good for GE Power in Schenectady NY

I work in building 66 I use to work in 273 sources I know in 273 say lots of areas are doing 4th quarter work and sweeping and mopping floors. On top of the harassment from management all because the management staff are living in fear for their career. I wouldn’t call GE a career anymore I can say that much. I can say is I have been laid off 3 times and I do expect another when 66 fails again. From the sources in 273 it is in the ball park of 150-175 layoffs coming. This company use to be great my grand father, and father both worked here along with my uncle all said. They are retired now but can not believe the union or company they way the shop has been treated. The older unions would of walked out a while ago.

In response to @SzUfBFA-fec, in his tenure, Immelt and his executive team chose to spend over $81 billion on stock buybacks, artificially inflating earnings per share price—and contributing to Immelt’s personal fortune. GE could have used that $81 billion for strategic investment, R&D, or any other initiatives that would have benefited long-term holders of the stock. Argue if you may that Union workers are "overpaid", but don't be blind to the riches attained by the men in charge.

It's "boosted your ego" not "boasted your ego."

If you are a "far fall from the top" that means you are near the top not far from the top.

I think you meant "overseas" not "over seas" as the latter would imply going over more two or more seas.

Well I have been making the same amount of money since the 80’s similar to the T Scale wage. So grow a set be united in the union and start a revolution.

Don’t sit behind your computer in your cubicle and say the factory workers are worth $15 an hour. You are most likely one of those harassing managers who act like the floor workers have to bow down and kiss your A$$ all because you have a degree and it boasted your ego to a new high. Thinking your the cream of the crop but in reality your a far fall from the top when salary gets laid off again. Don’t worry your next job will be at one of those $15 an hour factory’s. Good bye GE Jobs it’s going over seas.

Long live Alstom!

The strikes and entitlement attitude of the previous generations of union workers is why manufacturing is nearly extinct in Schenectady. I spent 20+ years in non-union workplaces before coming to GE. Stopping work after hitting line rate or telling your Ops Leader that you refuse to do anything else because its 2 hours before the end of your shift would result in termination in a non-union shop.

Union lifers like you are completely detached from reality. The only reason high wage factory jobs were the norm in the post-war years is because the rest of the industrialized countries were in ruins after the war and developing nations were still in the dark ages.

If a job can be automated or can be performed by a third world peasant, it will be. They days of $30/hour assembly line lug nut tighteners is long gone. Sorry, Trump isn't going to turn the calendar back to 1954.

Take a look at the production job postings in the area. Most staff with temp agencies and pay less than $15/hour. Reality won't be pretty for those living in a union fantasy land.
