Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

They will be reducing headcount

Windstream is in trouble and is struggling. There's no question of that. A lot of people are scared right now because nobody knows if they will be on the next layoff list or if the company will eventually fail all together.

All I know is that there are a lot of people that were planning on retiring from the company that have worked here 30+ years who ended up getting laid off. The problem is that a lot of them have a skill set that isn't in demand anymore. They couldn't have predicted 30 years ago that Windstream would be in this position or that there wouldn't be a demand for the expertise.

What I see is that Windstream heading in a direction where they are going to reduce their headcount, regardless if they are successful or not. Windstream isn't the only one in this boat. A lot of similar companies are going in the same general direction. Reduce the headcount as much as possible.

Thanks, @Suv4FJg-wpx , this is a very good analysis

You must have a degree from the Philippines. You lack math skills if you don’t see what’s coming.

Attitude doesn’t pay the bills.

I actually have a college degree in business but it isn't about education or the lack of it. I simply choose to be positive about the company I work for. We have a job today and next week may be different but it will take care of itself. I choose to not sweat over the stuff I have no control over and we all know that when the axe falls, it falls it without rhyme or reason. No matter what, I know that i always did my very best and that no matter what happens tomorrow or next month, I will survive. There a are far greater events in life worthy of worry than Windstream. A good start is with attitude.

Committed to being Postive needs to commit to going back and getting their High School degree so they don’t drown on the sinking ship.

Some of these people are happy to have a job because nobody else will even interview them in the industry.

CSMB org now has the whole of broadand and OSP engineering so yeah prepare for layoffs alot of redundancy in those orgs. Full of people that somehow got an 'engineering' position and pulling in decent money but are just flat terrible... Total Dead weight... Expectations have changed people!

I also work in the Consumer and SMB organization. My experience is not the same as committedtobeingpositive . There are a lot of delusional people in CSMB thinking that the business unit is improving. It’s not!! The management is not great. The blind leading the blind. Layoffs are happening every month or so.

I am confused! I was under the impression the Jeff Gardner was no longer associated with Windstream. I remember the announcement that he was leaving and Tony Thomas was becoming the new CEO. I also remember realizing that the only change that was being made was one crook was leaving and another was taking his place. I will admit that Mr. Thomas is infinitely worse than Mr. Gardner, but that is all irrelevant now. Kind & supportive words a little too late Mr. Gardner.

@committedtobeingpositive: I'm glad that your experience here at Windstream is so positive. You obviously hit the jackpot with "great management and great co-workers". Most of the folks that I know would say the same thing about the people they work with. The management is another story. I & my fellow coworkers are considered "the bottom of the barrel" by the management and above. CST's, Network Techs, & BST's are viewed as "scum & slave property" by management. Morale is stagnant and most of my coworkers are simply trying to do their jobs and not end up one of the many bulls%$t reports that the LAM's get each day and have to justify to the idiot new boss that they have that has to report to D Ferg. Reports that provide not useful information. None of it helps take care of the customer, or improve his/her service, and most definitely does not make for a happier customer. We are all just waiting to see if any of the rumours that we are to be sold off are true, or what new quota number we will have to meet. I don't think anyone expects things to go back to the way they were, but I know that no one out here in the "field" feels that anything good it headed our, or the companies way. I used to love my job. I really did. I felt a sense of pride, and fulfillment and now I live for the weekends and my next personal or vacation day. Everyone is so oppressed and downtrodden. The people running this company are not concerned with the wellbeing of the company or its employees. I'm very very happy that @committedtobeingpositive is where things are good, but positive thoughts and a smile are not going to change the fact that the majority of the non-management employees are being treated like criminals. I wish that were an exaggeration, but it is not! The employees of this company did not put Windstream in this terrible situation. Mr. T, his cronies, & the Windstream board of directors are responsible for this mess. We just have to suffer the consequences. As usual!

You are right that there Are a lot of people waiting for the other shoe to drop, that is true across many industries these days, Windstream is not alone in that regard. I have been at Windstream a long time, the different companies that make up this company have weathered a lot of changes, both good and bad and hopefully this will be the case this time. Windstream is not the company it was and won't ever be again but that doesn't mean that it won't survive and become even better than ever. This company already has a lot of great people dedicated to doing the best job they can and With the right leadership anything is possible, even greater success than ever before. Our industry changes at lightening speed, we have to find ways to be better, faster and do it as lean and mean as we can.

@committedtobeingpositive

Glad to hear your team is doing well, that's great for you but not for the overall company morale.

Based on the comments here and on Stream that is not the over all pulse of WIN corporate culture. I think a lot of people are waiting for the other shoe to drop. I also come on everyday and give it my best but there are lots of holes in our processes and not a lot of people to fill the void.

1fnr - Your logic kind of defeats itself. "Lets come together and unite in regards of damning this one group of many within this company"

I can tell you there are many people in many groups that do not do their job well for a variety of reasons. You get that with any company. It isn't one group or one CLEC/ILEC company that is the problem.

Can't we just unite and agree to talk sh1t about the sh1tty incompetent ERC management team????

Esp those low level management @$$ kisses over in Charlotte and Greenville.

We gotta stick together folks. Let's just vote them off the island then we're all safe. Right (?)
