Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Any more positions being eliminated?

I was just wondering if there was talk about any more positions being eliminated?

My mom is stressing again and I'm trying to calm her down, but it's not really working.

Wherever I look, there are no mentions of any more layoffs or position cuts, but I want to make sure I'm not missing something before I try to talk to her again.

Right now corporate knows that only the hangers-on are left and will milk you like a cow...people who are eligible for retirement are fleeing and stores are being filled with untrained nubile kids just collecting a check...the lack of product is now causing customer comments and loyal customers still come but they express their sympathy and hopes...like you would a dying friend...

If you aren't paying attention to the actual finanical instead of what corporate tells you then you deserve what you get. Even if you have no finacial background, if you pay attention to what is happening at your store and you don't see that this company is going down then you have no clue.

How many vendors have stopped shipping, how many hours have been cut, how many positions have been cut, how much store maintenance goes undone, how many problems are there with the registers, computers, SYW, credit cards, how manhy problems are there that no one knows what to do....? get a clue and get out

According to the annual reports, SHC had 178,000 employees two years ago. 140,000 one year ago. 89,000 currently. Average employees per store is also way down as they eliminate the better jobs to save money. The company is imploding at an incredible rate. These were the two largest retailers in the US 30 years ago. Now they do less total sales than Dollar Tree.

In the end SHC is going to employ a few clerks and accountants to manage the website and process royalty checks. Everybody else needs to get out ASAP.

Eddie Lampoon is a cold, heartless bastard (no doubt a narcissist), and probably hates his employees as much as they hate him. Every employee needs to open their eyes to the reality of what a greedy, selfish, blood s---ing scumbag they are working for and find a better job. There truly is a better life after Sears, and you and your Mom deserve that.

Tell mom to start looking for another job. Whether her position is eliminated next month or next year SHC will close within a year unless there is some miracle of sales in stores. If she gets out and starts looking now she can avoid the rush when everyone gets laid off at once. Or if she stays until the end of a store closing she will get more hours then she could possibly work. When my store closed I worked close to 65 hours a week and got overtime. I made more in three months then I would have working the whole year if the store stayed open.

@Sst5XSQ-mch This should help OP get a better overview damn has Sears cut that much work force and yet we are doing so bad overall. I know my store is doing very bad just this month we are down 22 percent vs lat year and to plan I think close to 30 percent.

The company eliminated more than 50,000 positions just in the last year. That's 35% of the total. The stores are still losing sales at a double digit rate. Another $200m in cost cuts is coming. Even if a store is doing halfway well in sales, they will be looking to cut anybody making more than minimum wage. Everybody needs to be looking elsewhere.

It just depends OP the big cuts that usually affect all the stores is in January and last year it was I believe end of June early July when they eliminated more positions. Who knows depending how things are going in the store and profits its very random when the cuts will come.

A lot that can accelerate a process is how the overall company is doing (especially how your store is doing). If the sales arent making enough money than they will probably cut positions to save money in the end.

To be more real OP explain to your mom Sears is going no where the company is dying. What happened to TRU is going to happen to Sears sooner or later. Its basically like a sinking titanic the day Eddie Lampert closes his check book or enough vendors pull out is the day Sears is done. Its going to be one or another.

It's a store by store issue for both positions and complete store closures. I would be looking elsewhere also.

The whole company is doomed.

All positions will soon be gone.

Your mother is right to worry.

Look elsewhere.
