Thread regarding IBM layoffs

If You're Not Employed By IBM, Don't Apply!

I've been in the business 40 years now. Started on AIX 3.2. Worked for Global Services half a dozen times. Every time, I've been 'replaced' either by H1-Bs or by 'changing directions.' The FTEs get RA'd, contractors get walked out the door. It never matters what contributions you've made, how well you fit, how many overtime hours you put in (80 a week for 8 months once). What matters is perception, image, and then only in Armonk.

IF you've never worked for IBM, DON'T APPLY!

Run like the wind folks. Incompetent managers , outsourcing to not on India but other countries and no vision. Ginny keeps coming up with new buzz words....Game is over. Thousands of IBM workers tell their families, friends about IBM..... The word is out that they are going down with zero respect for hard working families. I know , ex manager.....

20 years ago, having IBM on your resume was like GOLD. Nowadays, people question why you would use your skills and talent to train H1-Bs how to do your job so that someone can replace you for substantially less money. IBM's Centers of Excellence focused on exactly this course. Best story I have -- about 10 years ago, a bank in Mumbai had major systems problems. The Center of Excellence-trained technician shut off all the disk! That's what he'd learned at the Center of Excellence! hahaha

Totally agree unless your a fresh graduate and want to get experience for a few years. But do warn you. Do not stay here forever unless you really think it will reap benefits for you.
