Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Alternate Jobs

Don't waste your time looking for alternate jobs within IBM. You're blacklisted and this smokescreen is merely IBM paying lip service to UK/EU employment law. Also, don't be surprised when most of your IBM "friends" abandon you like you've contracted leprosy. Forget IBM and your client now - use the three months to look after number one and steer you career and life towards a happier and healthier place. Take all the time you need and give your manager a taste of what it's going to be like without you. Reach out to colleagues on Linkedin etc. and get yourself registered with one or more reputable employment agencies. Don't waste time with the abysmal "Right Management" company who'll be inundated and are quite frankly useless. Most importantly, DO NOT LOSE HEART. I realise it's a well worn cliche but there is a life after IBM and the misery you've endured in this brutal and unethical company will quickly dissipate when you find your new role. I speak from personal experience and it was one of the most challenging and pivotal moments in my life. However, the losing that "Sunday night dread" feeling alone was worth the change.

The top management just save their a-- right now, they never think this will haunt them back. Take a look at the market now, how many companies are adopting IBM technology. They are losing the market share, there is always a reason why this company is tumbling so fast and being kick out of it own empire for the last few decades.

@gyt Don't get me started...I swear, as long as you're buddies with a couple managers you'd be safe even if you never show up for work...meanwhile the actual workers who cover for them wind up getting cut. Then upline managers wonder why revenue and productivity is down.

I totally agree with you, it's like your co-workers who remain at IBM "blacklist" you and will not even give you a LinkedIn reference. I was over 50 and a top performer and it does "S---" and it is hard to find a job when you are over 50 and can't retire. I honestly don't know how IBM management can sleep at night getting there hefty bonus while people are loosing there jobs. Don't waste time with the "Right Management" company, what a joke that is. They would be better off providing $$$ over that. It does get better slowly but takes time to get over and for me find a job.
