Was on a call where a few engineers mentioned their volunteering for RIF was accepted and this past Friday was their last day. They were ecstatic of course

Technically that’s always a potential option when things like this are occurring. You can ask your HR generalist if they are seeking reductions. Often times they will gladly take volunteers as they have a much lower risk when it comes to legal reviews etc.
Just be sure that you’re ready to hear the response. Either way! They may say you’re too important and must continue to suffer even though you’ve already made the mental break to pursue leaving.
@Smc5OIC - that information would have been released when whomever is responsible for it announced that there was a RIF going on. With that announcement would have been a deadline to volunteer by.
