Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Who do you think built this company?

I'm so tired of posts saying to s--- it up, that Qualcomm doesn't owe us anything, it's just business...

Well you know what, Qualcomm does owe us! And it owes us a lot! We are the ones who built this company up from nothing to one of the most recognizable names in the industry. It was our work and our knowledge that put us on the map, and it was their mismanagement that put us in the predicament we are in right now.

So yes, if nothing else they do owe us loyalty and respect - something that's sorely missing in the way this whole thing is being handled. And we have every right to be angry and disappointed about that.

The company pays you for your effort every two weeks. You dont keep being paid for what you accomplished 5, 10, 15... years ago. Otherwise its like Disneyland asking you to keep paying for the wonderful memories you created twenty years ago, even though you only bought one ticket 20 years ago. CDMA is long gone, the future is what matters and what's going to pay the bills. Many here dont resent the company just because they are being let go, but because they invested so much time and effort (outside their personal and family time) far worth their two week compensation in the hopes of future reward.

What I have a problem is that staff and senior staff engineers who just modify Makefiles and config files all day and work hard on their visibility. Qcom gives everything to these employees.

Qcom has spoiled its employees utterly with bonuses and rsu's. You guys cannot even seem to think clearly. The company does not owe you sh--, companies are about earning money for their shareholders. Qcom is in this mess since it continued to pay hefty bonuses and rsus to employees and execs, while shareholders received nothing.

If you think for a single moment that corporations owe anything to the employees, you are in for a rude awakening

The IJ relatives in the HR department need to leave. No one in Q owes you anything. You no longer own this company remember? It is what it is.

It is what it is, best to separate work from life happiness. It was a good run, but all good things....

Well, IJ got his money already. He sold his shares and no longer owns this company. He doesn't care about the employees so be it. He's no different than anyone of us now.

Omnitracs and CDMA built this company, the rest of you are just passengers.

Irwin sold people who actually did build this company to Ericsson and Kyrocera without a second thought, so he could pocket more cash, so what makes you think you are special?

I should add, in the comments below, the lack of respect is clearly deserved.

Well said OP! It's actually a sentiment IJ would support. The comments are reflective of the type of people that are now stuck here. There is a lack of respect, clearly.
