Thread regarding Weatherford International Ltd. layoffs

There is success after Weatherford

Just wanted to give you an encouraging word, since I was in your shoes about a year ago. When I was laid off by Weatherford, I was mildly put panicking. By then I have been with the company for nearly two decades and I honestly believed I'd retire there, which means I was completely unprepared. I feared layoffs constantly, but I never really did anything about it because in the back of my mind I thought I was safe.

Well, fast forward a year later and I have a new job where I earn nearly the same I did at Weatherford, and I don't have to worry about layoffs every single day. I also have a chance of being promoted soon, something that was a pipe dream at Weatherford.

My point is that even if you are laid off and it looks really bad at that moment, you'll be okay.

I quit my job at WFT last summer, and went to a competitor while getting a 42.5% increase in pay. Please do not see that as me bragging... I am not!

I couldn't be happier now. Every morning I'd wake up wanting to quit my job or call in sick. It takes time to find a better job, but they're out there. The industry is still not healthy, but it will get better. Don't be afraid to look outside the box for a better career opportunity!

Yes agree its not all gloom and doom away from Weatherford I do miss all the good people I worked with but don't miss the daily worry of being next to be shown the door that stress was starting to show on me and my family.

I hope things turn around for those left but when you hear the CEO earning $11M per year while the workers below endure pay freezes and pension cuts you get the feeling only one outcome is inevitable.

I will chime in here too. I left Weatherford in January after being with them for 12 years. If you had asked me even 1 year ago would I leave Weatherford I would have told you no. I was a company man through and through. They were always good to me. The couple years I saw so many great people lose their jobs due to poor management that I just could not stay any more. So I left.

I now work at another company that is healthy, growing and actually hiring. People are not fearing for their jobs every day. It is an amazing experience after the last few years of hell at Weatherford. I enjoy going to work every day.

If you are still at Weatherford, find a new job and leave as soon as you can. You will not regret it.
