Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Age demographics in RIF

Latest RIF - 99% were employees over 50 years old. Just warning younger employees. You don’t think it will happen to you until it does. Don’t waste your career at Honeywell. They will screw you before it’s over. Plenty of good companies out there, Honeywell is not one of them.

I knew how petty HR was when they announced back in 2010 that departments can not buy bereavment gifts. My dad passed in 2009 and our family got a card and potted plant. Plant still hanging-in there. My mom passed in 2011 and we got nothing.

@5iax. “Educate yourself so you are not outdated” look in the mirror if you are worrying about being outdated. No matter how ‘educated’ you are, if your hair turns white or gray, you wear reading glasses, you have a bald or receding hairline, puffy eyes and wrinkled, little bit of belly fat- you are outdated. Oh and it especially hurts you if you have given your career to Honeywell and are making the $$ to show for it. Then that target gets huge on your back.

My best advice? Save twice as much as you think you need towards retirement; start early so when you get laid off at 60 you can afford healthcare for the next 5 years.

Stupid is....not realizing you are replaceable at any age and any company. Educate yourself so you are not outdated.

@SjsNcyr-ieg:

Honeywell execs are extremely greedy. Greed can make even the most reasonable person into a complete blithering idiot. And that is exactly what is going on. Why else would someone choose to outsource the entire OMS group to India and not train them before they lay off the people who know what they're doing in the US?

As far as Honeywell being "that stupid" -- no they are not. They've learned plenty from their losses and from other companies' practices like GE and IBM. They've got it down to a science. They manipulate your reviews to make you look like sh^t and there's no way you can disprove any of that. It's a losing battle. Just know that you won't have a long career at this crappy company. Make other plans. They want you to leave. I did. I left with a shred of dignity and self respect still intact.

HON is that stupid they have done this before were sued and lost. However in the present political climate they can probably get away with it.

@SjsNcyr-ieg Yes I do. I was part of this recent RIF and they send you in your severance package a list of demographics. Frankly. It shocked me. Blatantly getting rid of the over 50- yes, higher paid but higher experience- group. 99% is pretty accurate. Unfortunately, to get the severance you have to sign papers to agree not to sue. They totally have us by the you know what’s.

That’s Honeywell for you! Good lawyers they do have!

Honeywell likely toes right on the line of legal. I was RIF'd in Jan 2016 at 54 and moved on, all the better for me. I went to some of the out placement meetings. Rough numbers were 12-15 people there on a given day. Maybe 10-12 Honeywell people and a few from other companies. So out of 15 people I would say 10 male over 50, 2 woman over 50, 1 woman in mid 30's, 1 male approx 40. No minorities. So not very scientific, I know. I knew most of the people from Hon as I worked there 21 years. Most of the people I would have considered good if not excellent workers.

What is a little more upsetting is that even with RIF happening, I saw new people getting hired, raises, promotions in areas where I used to work. Common theme - all young / early career. Hon good at towing the line there too. The plan has always been to get high cost out and lower cost in where necessary.

Younger people have it not so easy too with no training (and no pension). I remember years ago half joking about sink or swim philosophy - today is just ridiculous in many cases and creates a lot of turnover.

Do you have hard data to substantiate the 99% claim. While ruthless, I doubt HON is that stupid.
