Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

I'm invited to a Unisys interview Wednesday. Anyone done one yet? What did they ask? Did they mention compensation?

Thanks for any advice on this. For reference, I was a CE, MCHS, and (was) a DCE.

OP here: I am a B. A's apparently are people with Security clearance, NonStop, or Resident although I know of one MCHS that was also deemed an A. In my backwater location (mostly rural), i'm not surprised I'm a B. The offer was actually better than I had expected. A bit less money, no car, much less fto but livable.

I think I might just retire.

Our state is going unisys June 13 and a CE WFR'ed last June is throwing a state wide party for all CE's, past and present on June 9th (the last Saturday there will be HP CE's here.

OP, have you been class designated A or B? Do you have anything in writing? Let's try and stick together. Thanks.

Unisys still exists?

They will require expertise on support for systems like the NonStop's, Superdomes, and other nonstandard servers. You will be used to train their current low paid technicians. Then they they will throw you on the trash heap like HPE just did after they are done with you. Think about it. Unisys is only 500 million dollar company. A shadow of what they used to be back in the mid 80's. Sorry boys and girls, there is little future at Unisys.

How's the benefits? 401k, car, work at home? Medical dental, etc. ? Overtime, standby policies? Good luck!

OP here: just finished the interview, 9 kind of technical questions, 3 general customer facing questions.

No info re compensation, location, or basically anything. Sounds like a perfect fit/s.

Best wishes to all, I'm out of this nightmare.

Just finished my interview. This round is technical considerations only and "what would you do" scenarios. 10-15 minutes. If you know your stuff, it shouldn't be pretty easy.

Just a warning to those that think Unisys will be run independently from HPE, don't think that at all. During the Unisys interview, several HPE managers were present.

So for what it's worth, this is the only way HPE can reduce and hire people at a reduced rate.

Consult a lawyer before taking any offer from Unisys, the hiring process is biased against old time workers!

My nephew went through something like this. Basically he was an employee of a company, and that company outsourced the entire department to an outsourcing firm. He had to interview for his own job, and there was a fairly modest drop in pay. (He was underpaid to begin with.)

Things got really ugly when they basically hired a fraction of employees to run the department, brought in a new layer of management, and basically did everything in their power to grind out every last ounce of productivity.

Make sure you understand the job titles / grades and how they translate. Try and move up one notch if you can. Since you maybe one of the first that's a good thing. You maybe at the top of the list recommended wise, so make up a story that your old HPE manager has been trying to move you up, but could not. Worth a try. Let us know in this post how it goes. We all have to try and survive. Good Luck!

I have an interview on Tuesday. I'll update what I can.

I also think it wise to see Unisys as a temporary position. They will certainly take on more than they need, and then adjust once they understand the HPE workload. We have no idea how many Unisys techs are out there and their bandwidth to receive additional work. I would be extra wary if you're currently in a higher paid position or have many years of service under HPE.

Good luck with you interview. Just want to share a thought about UNISYS, keep in mind that however many HPE employees UNISYS absorbs into their field force, it may only be for a short time. i.e. UNISYS is a low margin business and they will try to bring costs down as soon as they can. While they might need HPE personel during this transition, there will be overlap and they will almost certainly seek to eliminate that over time as they figure out how to support HPE customers.

So you should look at any offer from Unisys as a temporary lifeline, if it turns out to be more, that would be great. But plan on it not being the case and try to seek a better situation.
