I just heard there's a 4 hour conference call tomorrow with the DM and Store managers on a Friday? Does anyone know what this is about? I have two full-time children's leads, and a Cafe Lead and we have a CBDM, and I'm worried for all of them. Heck, I'm worried for me, I'm an Assistant Manager. Please if anyone knows anything, let me know. Thanks.

So the call was to discuss the repositioning of the district. The new DM getting more stores on an already crowded plate. It was also a beating down session on all the SMs telling them what a horrible job they are doing - well, duh? How are you supposed to run a store with less people and less hours? “Good grief,” said Charlie Brown.
Also schedules for all employees will be generated at the home office level . No cashiers will be scheduled. The will be in the store zones and help customers then take them and their purchases to register and ring them up. Hours are being cut to the bare minimum . BUT the stupids at home office still think shelving, zoning and receiving to get done. NOT happening. Corporate is dragging the stores down, pinching ever penny that they can, so when this company goes belly up all the fat rats at the corporate level will have the golden umbrella.
Call involved new service of picking up online orders at store instead of having it shipped to home.
Yea! Who knows what? The original poster should know since they obviously still work at barnes and nobles .
What was that call all about that someone supposedly knew so much about? All I saw was article in the New York Times saying B&N was in bad trouble and may down size larger stores and reduce staff.

This is so funny....let me make something up too.....the Chairman decided to resign....he wanted to talk to the DMs and SMs. Is that a good one?
Well, somebody posted when the first lay offs happened that the next go round was coming in may.....so here it is. If you have 2 assistant managers, say goodbye to one. I feel both kids leads will be gone and all cafe leads. All these positions you can fill with part time people and pay them nothing and no benefits. No...I don't have the inside scoop, just my thoughts.

Maybe how they are going to fill the stores with more and more games and toys after demise of TOYS 'R US.
Same M.O. as last lay off go around. Except that was a Monday, unless they got word the Friday before. Must have. They called people in the office as soon as they got in on that Monday in the morning. But, who knows? Is this EVERY DM and his/her managers in their district or just your area? If nation-wide, it doesn't sound good.
Also, future lay-offs won't get severance. Maybe 2 weeks, but not like the huge amount they paid out last time.
