We lost most of our vacation time due to state mandated sick leave. We used to get around one hour or more per pay period. Now we get around 6 minutes per pay period for vacation. We now get that minimal vacation plus four days of paid sick leave.

To take sick leave you have to accumulate that leave with the hours you work and you have to get a doctors note. So you will spend your sick day in a doctors office and it takes a whole year to accumulate the hours neccessary to get the full four days. Most people wont make the hours for two days per year due to cuts in hours. Way to take something that would help people (paid sick leave) and use it to take vacation from people and cut other benefits, SHC!

Also, but cutting hours a few weeks in the spring like sears is doing,I would imagine that is deliberate so part timers will not reach that magic number of hours in a year to start accumulating vacation hours the following year.. if we make it that long as a whole

I bet they crunch numbers constantly to see when the highest number of part timers are getting close to that magic number and cut hours so drastically the lost hours can never made up

Why else would hours magically appear 3 weeks later.. sales didn’t improve

Micromanaging at its best

DMs should be getting cut not the people who actually are doing the work

When they advertise part-time jobs available, maybe they should just call it Nano-time jobs because the hours offered couldn’t be counted as “PART” of anything

I think most people consider a part time job as being 15 hours per week.. consistently

So just advertise correctly what you’re selling

Nano-time job openings maximum of 3 hours week but we want your availability wide open

How much does it cost the company to do the hiring process, only to have those people quit soon after because of lack of hours? Must be thousands of dollars with the time spent in interviews, background checks, drug test, training.

It is unethical indeed. In my store we just got a new person not long ago and they asked her to open her schedule. She said I am fine how I am. She later on told me and I laughed and I told her my schedule is pretty open and that week I just got 13 hours why do they want you to open your schedule if their is no hours lol.

We hired 2 guys in our store. Two days into their training they were told there were no more hours that week so they could go home and to call the store for their next week's schedule. Only one called back, the other never came back. The one that did come back only got 11 hours the next week. He quit after that week too. Classy Sears.

Hired four new people in our store last week. Told them today they wont have any hours until the middle of the month. So sad and unethical.

Yeah we’re hiring too! What is their goal.. to have 5 people share the 15 hours that once was given to one person.. so now each person would get the min of 3 hours per week??

Limiting quarterly earnings so no unemployment can be received?

Why are full timers still getting 40 hours? Why not cut them to min if 30 and save some more money?

And how about that training from 2/11/18 mandatory meeting? That sure fell by the wayside

They'll hire you, but then few weeks later you'll get no hours.

Just cut hours to 3-4 hours a week, for part time workers in our district. More cuts, more store closings to come after 1Q financials. 24 stores already closed in the last month with no annoucement to the public.
