Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

question

I heard that Dell is requiring employees to use their personal social media accounts to advertise for the company. They're told they have to or they won't get far with the company. Anyone else hear that?

Wreaks of desperation by a company that resembles the Titanic shooting flares with no one responding.

honestly this is great free marketing which Dell always thrives in. Dell will not stop trying to creep into your private life and network. My boss was very hostile with me when I would not show her my family pictures, my facebook, and whereabouts after office hours because the team would do that in the name of being part of the "family" who has no trouble using your real family problem to justify why you are incompetent. Thankfully this is slowly changing.

We all took the training a few weeks ago about the do's and don'ts of social media but we were not told he have to post ANYTHING.

If the company asks, and if the employee wants to they can participate (however, the employee should be sure they are not posting anything derogatory), however the company cannot legally require an employee to promote the companies products on personal media accounts. The employee should not be using personal media accounts from work, or remotely using company equipment to use posting anything concerning a company or product as this is not protected free speech.

And the company gets free marketing services, great deal for them. Personally the last job I'd want is anything management related @ Dell, the heat the lower level managers have to put up with is way beyond the crap they shovel out to rank and file employees which is pretty nasty in itself.

not required but highly encouraged.those who do provide their personal network for the company (after social media training) do get a lot further thanks to being visible.

Who said this is lying or inventing information. You're not obligated to own any social media account, and if you own, you aren't obligated to use it to amplify company's public media.

If the employee wants to do media amplification, he/she is initially forbidden to do unless the employee do a series of training which qualify him/her to become marketing in behalf of the company.
