Thread regarding Southwestern Energy Co. layoffs

It could have been worse

I was laid-off in 2016 and it was a difficult time. There were no jobs to go to, and several folks I worked with were extremely low performers and they got to stay. Some of it was downright unfair and very biased toward the a$$ kissers.

That said, the going away package from SWN was really more than I expected. Legally they could have just said "bye bye". End of story. But instead they gave us two months pay and additional pay for years of service. What surprised me was that SWN gave bonuses AFTER a major layoff. Most companies that have a major layoff would not even consider a bonus. Then I got the biggest bonus of my career in April 2016. Big surprise! I don't know if it was kindness or guilt that prompted the bonuses for 2016. Maybe a little of both. But it was appreciated.

As for the company overall, it's so sad to see a once great company die. It's literally a train wreck in slow motion. Before we moved to the new building, SWN had a strong family-type atmosphere. Then after we moved, upper mgmt put a firewall between them and the folks getting the real work done. We became a company that was more interested in PR than being in the oil and gas business. The top brass also had the gall to be so critical of other companies that didn't diversify. Well, SWN never did either.

For those who didn't get hit in 2016, you're lucky to have gotten a paycheck this whole time, but I'm sure your nerves are frayed and the backbiting has become even worse.

SSldQnG-3uhz, you must have looked in the mirror for inspiration to this post. Good riddance to you on May 10! We don’t need your kind to keep SWN the great company it is today and will always be!

You must be a real gem. sounds like you are stuck in the past and can't move on. What kind of pathetic being are you that you no longer work at swn but continue to troll this site? get a life and move on. If you were laid off in 16' or fired more recently, (probably the latter if I were to guess,) then there was a reason for it.

Funny how people on here cant seem to figure out that they abused the system for years, got away with it because they were protected by the prior management, (that has also been removed), and they were given ample opportunity to fix their attitudes and the way they were operating, yet they continued on the same path of dishonesty and total lack of teamwork and leadership....and now you are surprised you were let go? That's funny, you got caught being the same lazy turd you always were, people were on to you, and now its over.

Funny how that works...... move on, you are irrelevant, even more so than you were before.

It’s interesting don’t know the numbers ; but many have left voluntarily since 2016.

Surprisingly I have heard of people who have been offered jobs and decided to stay ...? ..

I guess anyone could be right for themselves ; but even if one survives this coming lay off... it is going to be a miserable place to work ... and there are some other opportunities

Your right about the a%# kissers staying, in PA their was one superviser that after he laid off his people (during the first layoff) he actually went around asking other people if they had anyone else to lay off. He enjoyed it that much.

Hopefully he's on the list this time. i hate to be like that but they got rid of a lot of great people in PA and kept mostly a%# kissers like him.
