Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Kmart toy of the month club

Sears Holdings is starting a Kmart toy of the month club with $5 free cash per month for toys to the members who join. This is incredibly smart and shows that Sears Holdings is being proactive in powering ahead in the huge tots category left open by the Toys R Us bankruptcy.

They are also giving $10 free cash in points to people in exchange for their useless Toys R Us gift cards. Does that sound like a retailer who has given up to you? It doesn't to me. To me it sounds like a retailer who is fighting with all of its might to carry on the legacy of Sebastian Kresge! Kmart is the true discount leader, their prices are truly saving consumers money everyday. Other discounters are not worthy of the name considering the highway robbery prices they charge!

@2qvh No, it's not for a specific toy, it's $5 to spend towards whatever toy you want in the store (which won't cover the price of most of them), like @1szd explained.

Toy of the month?

Someone find a skid of something from 1994 in a warehouse and ship a few boxes to each store?

Yeah, the OP is just a cheerleader...It doesn't matter if it's true or not, if you can find a way to spin it, you do it, just to try to make yourself feel better about your own ignorance for hanging on so long...

Here's how the "gift card exchange" works. You go into a Kmart holding a defunct Toys R Us gift card. Regardless of the value remaining on it (which Kmart has no way to check), a Kmart customer service desk employee is supposed to take your TRU card and give you a link to a brief survey to fill out about you and your toy-buying habits. After submitting the survey, you get a one-time $10 freecash offer added to your account, that can be spent at Kmart in-store only for about the next 2 weeks. There's no real relationship between your unspent TRU gift card and the money Kmart gives you.

The "toy of the month" thing is a $5 freecash offer, sent to eligible members' accounts once a month and expires in two weeks, during which time Kmart raises the prices of toys that had previously been on sale. The catch is that many customers who follow the instructions to send a text to sign up for this have not been sent the promised offer, with no indication as to why (they have no problems receiving other promotions).

Both programs are being advertised kinda misleadingly.

Will the first month be an Elsa doll that sings "Let iiiiiit gooooooooo leeeeeet iiiitttt GOOOOOOOO"?

This is a desperation tactic for sure. Won't really work though.

Where is the money coming from for this? Toys R Us cards have all been demonetized. Paying customers who bring in worthless items is not good business. Sears and Kmart have been giving away lots of free points for years, and it has not helped them turn around.

Not all SYW members qualify for the $5 toy offer. And they do not provide information as to the qualifications. It is false advertising. Calling about it gets you nowhere.
