Thread regarding Southwestern Energy Co. layoffs

May layoffs

Layoffs on Thursday May 10th or 17th?

Where did this come from? Is it true? Are we looking at May layoffs?

When are layoffs???? Based on our CEO's comment's in the All-Company Call today, I don't think we will see layoffs on May 10 or May 18. It sounded more like June or July. What did you hear?

If you are middle-aged and above, you should worry! Look at 2016. Yes there were some youngsters that got the ax, but the SWNdlers only did that to avoid law suits from the more experienced personnel.

If you have your nose deep into a liked managers hind end, then you may be safe. Again, look at 2016.

Alright guys, so I’m really not supposed to talk about this, but I’ve been in the oilfield 40+ years, And I know it’s always better to know then not know. I can’t give directly who’s gonna be laid off next week because it would endanger my own career path,(luckily I’m safe this round) but I can give you an idea. If you’ve been training some one over the past couple months, any at all, that’s not a good thing. If you show up to work everyday and feel as if your just doing “busy work”, that’s not a good thing. If you feel like your department is overcrowded, it won’t be long. If you work for HSE, your more then likely gonna be replaced by contractors(hate to say it but they are cheaper, and will be present more often). If your job could be done by some one off the street(with little or no training) prolly not good, but as long as you don’t meet the other criteria, you may or may not be ok. If you have EVER had a below expectations, goodbye. This is gonna be a big cut as we prepare to move forward. Minimal impact up north, Arkansas will be pretty much cut in half, as for the Houston office cut in half also. If your job isn’t easily replaced , your prolly safe for now as long and your not training some one to do it that is paid equal or less(if it equal, you have sub-par performance, and that’s doesnt cut it this day and age.) I hate this but I would have loved to know information like this, years ago when the company I worked for did mass layoffs with zero notification. So good luck to all!
