Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Former Assistant Manager here

I had 12 yrs in, 7 as an asst. Got out 3 years ago, thank God. Much of what I'm seeing happening with this company I predicted years ago, the rest is still blowing my mind.

I had area D, 15-20 f.t. hourlies, a budgeted 800-1000 hrs/wk pay toll----and an allowed surplus of 5-700 hrs. To maintain low shrink/high profit, my 300 mil/yr store needed numbers like this. What's happening now is like watching a going out of business sale.

Unbelievable. So glad I left.

It's unbelievable to me, too! I know a lot of it has to do with automation and technology, but these routines are off the chart! I KNOW what's being done to these ASMs and COs. I hear it on the radio and work different shifts. No one has it 'easy,' if they ever did! True, the minimum starting salary for ASMs has taken a huge hike since I started in 1998, but unless they have a meeting or interview to conduct, no one stops to sit and are moving from the moment they get here. I am an hourly supv and often they don't even stop to eat or take a break unless it's the morning meeting or 1400 meeting. Our O/N asms are often here running freight and finishing up until 9, 10, or 11am!
