I asked about the sale of the building because of what someone told me. It was a question, not a rumor, not a troll, not a stupid person, and I'm not an HR person. I truly don't know anything about Sabre's Real Estate. I just know people in the Facilities Department. I'm glad to know that the lease is really cheap and Sabre will not move to Frisco. Sorry for the dust-up. No harm.

The hq building has not been owned by sabre since Travelocity days. They have a long term lease on the building on a really really great deal. Unless they move out of dfw area they are pretty much looking at loosing money. This just shows how ignorant you are troll.

Sabre is at free fall, it is losing... The CEO just talk, last 2 years he didnt take any real action. AS team lost many customers, sales are all time low. There will be layoffs, firings. To say that this is a rumor is something HR will do. Selling the HQ building and moving to a much smaller cheap building is very real.

No one here is whining. This is the only anonymous site where people can speak freely. Of course there will be rumors and many will be untrue. Everyone knows they should not take anything here too seriously.

With the departure of VD from MSM am I am sure that MSM will get hit hard for what has AS MSM produced in the last 5 years that has been worth anything?? The sad part is that most of the damage was caused by the guy (VD) who just left. He got rid of all the Ladies and Gentlemen who had Airline Experience and hire "Programmatic Marketing People" and which big deals have we won??? Any of the good folks in MSM, VD stained them all and taught them to behave like he did which was a bunch of fluff and no real substance. Which product created under the Leadership of VD has really done anything??? How much money have we wasted on products like Digital Experience? Or DS favorite town hall topic of Interact, and none of these products have help us sign any new deals. The worse part is not the amount of money wasted on these but the fact that these two products alone have take investment from other great products that could save AS. Maybe receiving a severance package is mercy compared to staying and trying to rebuild.

Is there a criterion for selecting people to lay off? Like performance? Or is it totally random?

i would guess those that are offered a package AND are less than successful in their last review. Should seriously consider their options. A layoff package a couple months later most probably wont be anything close to this golden parachute.

As it relates to AS. DS has a number of the VP’s cornered finally. It will be interesting to see how he uses that JuJu or if we will just see another round of mostly low people exit.

Sabre has two career paths. It's not always about the direct report headcounts. A Senior Principal is an individual contributor that is equal to a VP that has direct reports. While the salary might be different, the benefits may not be.

I don't agree with painting all Directors, VP's and senior leaders with the same broad brush. There are some great leaders here and many bad leaders, as there are great employees and many very useless employees. I judge each one based on my experience and their consistent actions, integrity, ethics, and character. It's fair.

Stock Options: If Sabre executes a non-compete clause with your forced exit package, then we may have the leverage to negotiate an accelerated vesting date for the outstanding options you have remaining. If you are not under a contract, then you will most likely only get the stock in which we are vested. Sabre will do anything to save money. What do we have to lose by asking?

I believe it is important to ask if you are eligible for rehire. Get it in writing. This will galvanize that you were not fired in case "not eligible for rehire" is placed in your file later.

Negotiate extra months of COBRA can be helpful, too. If you are laid off on May 1, June 1, etc, your health insurance is paid for that month, then COBRA kicks in the next month. If the date is May 20, then you have 11 days of insurance left unless you negotiate it. Perhaps negotiating in extra monthly increments, not weekly.

If Sabre tethers you to a non-compete (regardless of your title), then they should pay for all costs for the period they are asking, including vesting. I'm not sure if you quit that you can be held to a non-compete. Ask your employment lawyer.

I would not be surprised if Sabre changes the severance policy. Get educated on the current policy and watch for any changes. I doubt they will amplify the changes. Whatever happens, this will help you make a decision to move on or hang on. If you volunteer to get severed I believe you will lose all negotiations power.

These are my opinions.

If severance policy is changed to reduce it it will be suicide for Sabre. Too many people Sabre can not afford to lose are only staying now because the severance is what it is. Reduce it and they will leave and Sabre will be left with those who are unemployable elsewhere. Do not think stock options mean they will not lay you off. Stock options are only to discourage quitting. Check your vesting conditions. If you get laid off do you still keep the stock options?

May buyout or layoff should solve the problem of directors and VPs: 80% of Directors and VPs are useless, they are so useless in some business unit contributors directly report to Directors and VPs. Rule of thumb if a director does not have more than 4 sr. Managers or sr. Principals, you don’t need that director. Same for VPs, they should have 4+ direct reports at the level of director and sr. director. Sean M. Putin promised to dissolve the silos at Sabre, he created more silos with hanging sr. directors.

Buyouts typically are for people who have severance agreements (Directors - 6 months, VP's - 12 months) that guarantee the amount. Most all come with noncompete for the terms of the contract.

Buyouts for noncontractual severance usually falls to the people with long-term employment tenure plus the severance policy. For example, if the published severance for Sabre is two-weeks for every year employed with a 12-month maximum. This means that a 26-year employee - along with legacy perks and bridge to retirement, health and life insurance, affected stock options, etc. could be negotiated buyout. This will impact mostly older workers over 50 and could be trouble for Sabre. Dumping older employees will also reduce their benefit payout.

Lay-off: If you are not under severance/compensation contract, Sabre can lay you off without reason. It's the law in Texas and severe your employment with only the publicised severance policy: two-weeks for every year. They must offer COBRA and you can apply for unemployment benefits.

The risk for us here is if Sabre sneakily and quietly changes the severance policy. For example, to save even more money, they could change the longtime Sabre severance policy to one week for every year of service to be effective immediately, then execute layoff's right afterwards. One year tenure = one-week severance. This is likely what they will do.

If you are not subject or privy to a compensation contract with Sabre, or are not close to retirement with long-term tenure, I don't believe that holding out for a "package" is better than finding a new job. I don't think it is financially worth the wait. If Sabre culture is not about people or transparency, do the math for yourself. Example: Five-year tenure (full years) = five weeks of severance pay plus remaining accrued PTO pay minus $700+ a month for COBRA. (Dental and portable life insurance more money).

I'll bet Amadeus and many large airlines and hotels in the area are looking for Sabre employees to work on the other side of the aisle as Sabre's customer intelligence, experience, and insight. Same with Hotels. I suspect leaving the two-week to 10-week severance behind to a secure job/benefits with a company that is solid, it a good risk.

These are my opinions.

Does anyone know what the buyout criteria will be? What are the min requirements? Age? Years of Service? How much one hates the company? The level of hypocrisy that one can no longer take?

Cuts going to impact DFW the most. They are going after the top dollars.

Revenue is going down as we have outages everyday among other reasons. So the only thing they can do is to manage the costs. The CEO is notorious for cuts eRlier in his career. So it is more of the same

One side they talk about layoffs/buyouts and here in BLR they are recruiting heavily...so may be they want to get rid of old timers here as well as replaced by new faces. :(
