Thread regarding Sears layoffs

My design for Kmart

I only stepped foot in Kmart once in my life. I had to go to the bathroom but the bathrooms were way in the back. I suggest Kmart redesigned their stores so their bathrooms are near the cash register’s and/or front door. If they re-designed their stores like this I might step into a Kmart again.

Worked at a group 7, group 3, and a group 4... builds in the 80s, 70s, and 90s respectively. All of these store recieved no remodel whatsoever aside from the few coats of paint and improved signage, and even that was done as fiscally sensible as possible.

There was a one time fixture replacement/improvement in 96-97 post "BIG" remodel *(few heavy duty gondolas installs for Sears merchandise post Kmart-Seara buyout in 2005), never any structual improvements, never any improvements to the network of systems on which we operated on.

Whatever improvements have been made have usually been in relation to legal liability issues. Restroom remodels for ADA accessibility, register and layaway and service desk reconfiguration for ADA, and repainting to eliminate the presence of lead paint. Thats it.

Rarely to never will new construction ever begin on a SHC property with the understanding that the structure does not conply with the minimum requirements to be altered without additional investment. Structual integrity standards have changed and any new work would be held to todays code. Existing asbestos is well known to be on SHC properties, and abatement would be costly. This is why floor and ceiling tiles remain unchanged.

Also notice many of the QMTs will refuse or will not be allowed to work on certain projects. These are given to a contractor, usually WITHOUT being notified about present risks, though it is often understood prior.

To clairfy this the early 1990’s built stores had the restrooms near the K-Cafe area/Service Desk and another set of restrooms near the layaway department.

I have worked at a store built in the early 1990’s

And a Kmart built in 1978.

The op is an imbecile and probably just joking. It only makes sense to have the bathrooms in the back so that you bumble through aisles of product for sale getting to the restrooms and back.

So if Kmart moves their bathrooms to the front of the store you might come back again, to use the bathroom. What do you p--p gold and pee Chanel princess?

Yes, because spending large amounts of money tearing up stores to reroute plumbing and rearrange the layouts is exactly what Kmart needs right now. Moving plumbing is one of the most labor/resource-intensive types of remodels to do. Jackhammering up concrete floors and walls would probably be involved. And oh yeah, almost all the Kmart buildings are only leased, so they'd probably also need to get the landlords' permission/involvement.

Yeah, put the bathrooms at the front so it's easier for all the junkies to come in and shoot up.

Good thinking.

I mean, if you can't stay relevant in the retail market at least you can have a stellar bathroom. Seem like logical forward thinking....

@zom, that's funny! Try Kmart's point system, you're wallet will be as grateful as your bladder was! Non food items are much much cheaper with their points system than Walmart or Target.

This post brought back a memory and brought much laughter! The only time I was ever grateful for visiting a Kmart was due to this exact same scenario.

@SHLMMLn, that's a great point. A clean, modern, washroom at the front would definitely be the way to go. I expect great things from Kmart in the future. I like your style of thinking. People need to be positive about Kmart and start dreaming about the future and how great Kmart will be and what could be. Kmart could have great washrooms.
