The sad truth

Truth- things are not going to change for the better. It is a sad truth but in reality things will never go back to where they were. And as much as everyone bashes upper management, they are really doing a great job. I say this only in regards to maintaining a workforce that has not gotten a raise in three years and restructured most fulltime store management to hourly with loosing much of the work force. The reality is a company will only pay you the lowest amount before you quit. And they know you won't quit. If you would, then you would have done it already. Where are you gonna go with your skill set? Outside of retail? Good luck with that transition without post secondary education. Going to another retail establishment? Won't be a manager at a big box location with your work experience. So what's left? Either an assistant potion at a big box or grocery store, if you lucky, or a manager at a small dollar store, small mall store, or a convenience store. But are you gonna have nights, weekends, and holidays off. Not likely. And our management knows this. They know as is you are not mobile. Your trapped. And they will continue to treat you like this, if not worse in the coming future. My advice is don't wait to apply elsewhere, odds are it'll take you a long time to get a callback for an interview with your skill set you gained at follett. Trust me I'm not bashing any of the hard workers at the store level. You are all hardworking and deserve better. Sad thing is you won't get more from upper management. This is not demeaning any of you. But I am being the person calling a fat person fat rather than play to you emotions. So get out there and mike something more for yourself. Management won't do it for you. It is up to you. You can get out but you gotta start now. If you feel you deserve better, sell yourself to others who will treat you better. Hope for follett is dead. But there is still hope for you. But you gotta act.

It is definitely an employers job market. And will be for sometime. So you have some choices. You can keep working your current job, you can apply for other jobs and hope you find something better, you can go back to school and develop your skill set or just quit and go jobless. You and only you are in control of your future.

That sure is brave (calling a fat person fat). No fat person has ever had that said to them before.

follett is a terrible place to work. If you can update your skill set, do it. Talk to departments on campus about what they're looking for in an applicant. What did you like about working at follett (let's face it, you have to be self motivated because the pay, leadership and positive re-enforcement disappeared long ago). Figure out other positions, at your college/university where what you enjoyed is desired. Then apply. Enjoy working again.
