Glassdoor Ratings of Seagate: Frightful

If the Glassdoor ratings of Seagate are to be believed, workers do not like working there. I'm a younger (20 something) programmer looking for work. I used to think Seagate was a cool place to work. Now all I read is RIFs, layoffs, clueless management. Is is true?

Worked for Seagate for 25 years, things have been going downhill for a long time...benefits, raises, promotions. I was part of a major RIF...it was a blessing in disguise...now I'm working for a great company, making more than I was, better benefits, raises, "profit-Sharing"...everything Seagate used to have. I blame management, things were better under Al Shugart, and then they kicked him out of the company he created...sad. I always found it strange that the management and processes which are now in place came from competitors which Seagate bought out (Conner, Quantum, Maxtor) these companies failed, and their former employees are now running Seagate, that is a model for failure if ever I saw one!

To the kid that started this thread: forget Seagate. Go to medical device or some other industry that is doing well. Seagate is a dead-dog dead end. With bad farts. In medical device, wages are growing fast, with the low unemployment rate. Benefits, from what I can tell from people's comments, are WAY better outside of Seagate. Run away, indeed.

I'm comfy and have pretty much risen to the highest level of incompetence that I can attain. With each promotion, I've found I become progressively less-effective because good performance in one job does not guarantee similar performance in another.

I believe this may true in many positions in every department. This would explain the lack of promotions, yes?

So don't feel bad. It's not Seagate.... it's you.

take a look at those managers who have not leave seagate yet, is it because they don't want too or they cant?? maybe is too comfy in the current environment till they are waiting for package because out there they cant get better jobs with their comfy experience?? Good managers should probably left the gate shore and seek better prospect elsewhere

If you’re looking for a career option that exceeds 2-3 years, look elsewhere.

Odd, I have been promoted 4 times in last 5 years, 6 times in 13 years. Oh wait, ever promotion has been because of a RIF and I received no raise and get more sh-- on my plate but my resume is rocking! Only people who get raises get it in the form of a rif package. Duh!

Most employees are very unhappy here. No raises or promotions for anyone ever is pretty demoralizing. I've been at the company 5+years and I don't know a single employee who has been promoted during that time. Seagate has become a very poor company to work for. And the benefits get worse every year.

With the technology shift of IT infra to Amazon Web Services, IT jobs should be stationed back to US headquarters

I think he/she might have meant "appease". You think?

Whilst you make fun of others, consider how you would like to be treated if you made an English error.

Not everyone is a spelling bee champion. But everyone is entitle to basic dignity.

I left seagate 18 months ago...fed up at watching all my colleagues getting laid off...whilst The top brass went out and brought companies...that they had no idea about running....Evault and Xyratex to name a few..then we threw those businesses away and the core got cut to upease the shareholders...

John Cleveland sitting up all night writing positive Seagate reviews? You think he cares that much? Keep telling yourself that.

LOL. Multiple troll and fake employee comments.

You 'people' need to get a life. You're obviously discontent. Leave.

Some of us actually like working for Seagate.

Been at Seagate 8 years now. The benefits have gone down the shiithole. The medical plan with the BEST coverage makes you pay THOUSANDS out of pocket before any healthcare benefit actually kicks in. This is how the top, grossly overpaid execs manage to buy a new boat each year, a new car every two, and a new house every five. Talk about the difference between the haves and have nots...

No, it's not true. It's actually worse. Seagate Nazi HR people write fake positive reviews to skew the numbers so the average is higher than actual. Get a clue: RUN AWAY.
