Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

WOW

Ran into an existing Windstream employee...told me things since I left this company in November have gotten worse....so glad I decided to leave! Their latest and greatest initiative (lunar) is pretty much set up for failure...they cut the due dates for deployment in half, concerns me due to the fact that CAF1R2 failed in many areas. Also this initiative is also utilizing existing copper facilities that are either extremely old and/or not sufficient to support the copper pairs required for successful deployment! Finally do they have the staff in place to conduct such a feat? Then the last thing that this person told me is this company decided to layoff so many people that they reached out to a former and asked him to return....so glad this person turned them down! Windstream should have listened to their employees...instead they chose to say we were being negative....many of the employees were not being negative just trying to wake up upper management so we could become successful once again....they must realize their employees are or should I say were there greatest asset!

Wireless won’t replace fiber/cable broadband for the foreseeable future in most of Windstream market. Not enough bandwidth for ott tv and everything else.

Ya, no kidding. Kind of like how they changed the naming conventions on all the major devices in the network. 3 years ago you knew exactly what kindof device you were getting into based off of the name.

Then some clown got hired and changed it to whatever failing company they came from because that is how they wanted it. There is no telling the amount of extra time that is now wasted retraining people to the new naming scheme in place when the old one was fine.

Now I'm sure that vp has been fired and replaced by someone else. Mttr is just a joke. This company does a good job at over complicating stuff for no reason. Always liked the weekly new rulebook for operations that was emailed out back when I worked there. I'm so glad to be gone now.

HFC, FTTx, microcell wireless or GTFO... G.fast and vectored vdsl is a joke trying to keep these old copper plants a float... I don't give a crap what your lab shows you can get. You will not get that same reach and speed over junk copper that's been in the ground for god knows...

Fiber to the home everywhere is a pipe dream. The copper will be abandoned in place over the next 5 years. 5G or what ever the next wireless technology will superseded this. Even in the rural markets wireless makes for sense than wireline services.

As I was thinking this morning about my previous post, WOW....I got to thinking why do we keep investing in all this junk that only has a shelf live of maybe 5 years and then we switch to the next flavor....every vendor is getting rich...why not just invest in placing fiber and put this monkey to bed. Think of the money that would be saved, no more cabinet upgrades, no more operation truck rolls, less monitoring equipment required....and the ROR would be pure revenue to Windstream...I just think we are way behind the 8 balll...what a friggin disaster! The only ones getting richer and fatter is the vendors and contractors, not to mention our CEO and board members.

The sad thing is they listen to these people they pouch from XO or wherever who sell the the world in a vial of snake oil then leave the company. They we're not worth a crap at XO and they are not worth a crap here. Listen to the people who have the biggest stake in Windstream success the employee but sadly it is too late for that. The time is now for everyone to abandon ship as quickly as you can. There is nothing left to salvage.
