You can put up with alot of stuff if you knew that by doing so you would get some sort of compensation--like a raise. All retail has the same problems. The problem with SHC is that there are no raises, no modern stores, no store maintenance, no hours and no purpose to most of what we do.

@Rxl7Is3-1rhy In the end of the day Walmart is just probably profitable. In the city I live in Walmarts are damn packed. Its just insane how many people shop how long the lines are. Walmart invest in their companies. Having self checkouts comes very nice when you are going to buy 1 or 2 items for example. The problem at Sears is no cashiers lots of people leaving having new people that don't know the system Sears is just a mess and biggest of all they don't have nothing to sell.

@1ofi - "Read Walmart the Layoff......many of the same subjects as Sears has." So what? Walmart is doing very well, while Sears is racing towards oblivion.

Perhaps some of us enjoy our jobs for the most part, like our co workers, and are actually paid well for the position. Read Walmart the Layoff......many of the same subjects as Sears has.

And Walmart gives raises and incentive bonuses each quarter. Nothing from SHC for 10 years.

So why does anyone work for this company?

Interesting that Walmart is rated lower than Sears, yet, Walmart stock has doubled this year and SHLD stock has lost around 60%. I guess that tells you that you need to sell stuff people want to buy, that a bunch of gimmicks are not what bring people in, and you need to keep stores nice, computers systems updated and you need workers to stock the shelves and help customers. All things Sears/Kmart does not do.

Stupid auto-reformatting changed the number in the first part of my reply... it is #13 on both lists, not 1. ;-)

Nice.

"Here's a quick rundown of the 20 most hated U.S. companies, according to 24/7 Wall St., which took customer surveys, employee reviews and news events into account in devising its list:

...

  1. Sears Holdings. The retailer, described in 24/7's ranking as plagued by unhappy customers and employees, plans to shutter more than 100 additional stores through the spring of 2018, with the count of Sears and Kmart stores already down to under 1,300 from 3,467 in 2007."

From the original article at http://247wallst.com/special-report/2018/01/22/americas-most-hated-companies-5/3/ :

"13. Sears Holdings

Over one-third of respondents in a Zogby’s poll conducted in partnership with 24/7 Wall St. reported a negative customer experience with Sears, one of the largest shares of any company. Sears also has one of the lowest customer satisfaction scores of any department store in the ACSI. Consumers rate Sears just 77 out of 100, lower than any department store other than Ross and Walmart. Sears’ falling sales are another indication of the company’s declining popularity among consumers. The company reported $22.1 billion in sales in fiscal 2017, less than half its $53.0 billion revenue in 2007. The number of Sears and Kmart stores — both owned by Sears Holdings — in the United States fell from 3,467 to less than 1,300 over that time, and the company plans to close over 100 more stores through the spring of 2018.

Declining revenue and imminent store closures likely do little to boost employee morale. Only 33% of Kmart employees and 28% of Sears employees would recommend the job to a friend, according to Glassdoor reviews."
