Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

I need to transfer to IT.

Out of 191 IT people, they laid off 13. I guess they won't save much on their ridiculously high contractor salaries! Most of these IT people make more than the scientists who actually find oil & gas and create value for this ENERGY company!!!

What a joke!

Okay @RxBvegP-5jmi

You are hilarious! On what planet do IT people do "most of the work" for geoscientists and production engineers??? Give your head a shake! If we need some software, or the plotter paper changed out, we call IT. The last time I called IT, it was to install a driver for a plotter, it took them 3 weeks. Thankfully I had someone else on the floor that could print my maps...good job IT! Next time I need a seismic amplitude or some petrophysics done, I'll give you brainiacs a call.

Don't get me wrong, IT is an integral part of the organization, but keep the bold and idiotic claims to yourself @RxBvegP-5jmi

Outsourcing staff is not "WISE", Trudeau is giving enough Canadian money and resources away to other countries, if all our jobs go too then how do we look after our own??

IT was a big "old boys club" and it still looks this way as most of the mid, upper management and they are still there.

IT only ever had 120 employees at its height. Now we are down to 80 and this is after we added all the employees from Deep Basin (COP had an all-employee IT model). So... 400 IT salaried employees is just trolling (again). And all those geoscientists and production engineers are all just DIVA's... the IT business analysts and support staff do most of their work for them. Good to see some of that high priced and useless talent get their pink slips for a change.

I was one of the 13 that got let go. Was ridiculous to tell an entire department to sit for hours just to let 13 people go.

I can't imagine how amazing it must have been pre-2016 when Cenovus had 400 salaried IT people. That must have been when they developed all of their advanced Artificial Intelligence technology capable of replacing geoscientists and production engineers?

This remark is just trolling. IT has lost almost 50% of it's employee staff since 2016. IT also WISELY converted most of the services to outsourcing... so we just called them up and said reduce service (and cost) by 15%. Don't hold your breath on getting your problem fixed anytime soon if you phone the servicedesk... this isn't even 'lights on' anymore... this is 'emergency lights only' service folks.

Typical fight (or flight) response, rag on HR and IT... In reality, the systems would fall apart in days without IT, and you'd tear each other apart even more than you already do without HR. Hate all you want, but you're dependant on HR and IT, and you loath them for it.

Great post RxBvegP-1wyh!

Ya, I heard the machine learning software was crucial during the cutover process...lol! What a joke!

RxBvegP-1rie. You might not need a geoscientist to PRODUCE a barrel of oil, we geoscientsts are smart enough to leave that to the Operations and Production Engineers! These are other "science" type jobs that are normally fairly critical for successful oil geoscientists don't produce barrels of oil! YOU however apparently need a geoscientist to show you how to spell g-e-o-s-c-i-e-n-t-i-s-t! You'd think an all-knowing HR rep would at least be able to spell the names of the positions they are supposed to represent, hire and fire!!! Maybe that is why they had to shorten it to HR. Too hard to spell Human Resources?

Yeah people, time for science is over. I mean science is sooo yesterday. All we need now is HR and AI. Can I ask the good HR rep. here, how does AI work? I mean since you are such an expert in the sciences that you have eliminated the need for a whole branch just in a post. I am sure you could explain to all of us buffoons here how AI is developed (or does something give birth to it? or Is it a natural occurring phenomena). Thanks in advance for the training, sorry we don't know. But hallelujah, HR is here to save the day.

P.S. nice job on the sjw part, there are so many pipelines being approved everyday that I am worried we might run out places to put them all. But then again AI & HR will solve that problem also.

U dont need a geo scienctist to produce a barrel of oil

U need HR people to explain to sjw cdn why the barrel should be produced

Time of disco eries are over, time of geo science is over

AI Robots will do the job

Wow, bad attitude! do you know how many businesses in +15 are supported by the hard working HR. If you eliminate them then the sales of coffee will drop, then the coffee shops have to layoff their people. Some stores might need to shut down even, then the building owners/staff will suffer. It is like a domino effect, so don't deminish their contribution. HR are job creators!

Hey @RxBvegP-skf

I know this because I'm not a retard and I am capable of pulling up the org charts without IT help! 178 IT people left and the bloodletting of the people that find oil & gas, and actually create value for an energy company is coming next week! What a joke! At this rate there will be 10 IT people and 7 HR reps to support every geoscientist! Good business model!

And you know this how? Perhaps your +15 time is also excessive. Best of luck grumpy pants!
