Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Please Explain Simple Store

Quite honestly hardline hours seem to be always dicated by sales. It amazes me that softlines has so many hours and so many positions when they have less sales. Maybe their sales are more profitable? Are Jewelry, Shoes, and Softlines going to be one Department now hours wise? From what I’m reading it seems as if there will only be three groups in the Simple store:

Backroom Support

Softlines

Headlines

Last ASM came yesterday to me to explain my new job duties. So basically I am doing more getting paid the same and it will be all rotated. Honestly this is going to be a mess its going to be dysfunctional and our sales are going to plummet at this rate (I mean they are already bad). Either way who knows how long we will use this new changes company is getting closer to the big day.

I’m our store they only let 1 Full timer gone and one BC manager still hardlines manager ASM Softlines one Kackley and three leads and Softlines one jewelry leave and one at one ops manager and one receiving leads still but processes are changing can you tell me if Schooley if the full-time 30 only get 30 hours now because it doesn’t look like there’s very many hours for any of us?

@1ufk That should have been done long ago. So much time wasted with metrics. Sales and keeping customers returning for more sales are what would have helped. As customers fled and sales went down, attention to metrics went up which was counterproductive.

If you watch you pennies (customers/sales) the dollars (successful metrics) take care of themselves.

Micro managing with time wasting metrics processes should go out the door. Remove all useless prompts on the registers to speed up transactions and everyone including ASM / Commission associate's get off the high horse and get the money in the drawer. That should be simple store.

Softlines and jewelry have always been profitable. Across the industry jewelry has a major markup. Ever wonder why we are always 70-80% off in jewelry. We make money because the product is so inexpensive for use to get. Clothing is also majorly marked up. There can be profits in softlines when it’s run properly. Sears does not run anything well unfortunately.

I'm surprised the hard lines manager was let go and not the soft lines, since the company probably makes more money in HA. I would assume that the hard lines manager makes more than soft lines.

They dont make money. That is the point of going out of business. Get with the program. Simple store is a way to run the stores with less people and less payroll until they can close the store. Simple.

Yes, that is what I was told. 3 groups - Backroom support, Softlines, Hardlines. At my store, the Softlines manager was not let go on Friday. Shoes, Jewlery, Appliances, etc. (5 managers) were let go on Friday and told that they could re-apply for "coordinator" positions.

At my store, Softlines was strong in December but with the sale prices and SYW points the profits can't be high. There is a lot of volume but the margins must be slim to none. T-shirts for $5, jeans for $12 - that's cheaper than Walmart. How could they be making money on that?
