People. It doesnt matter what happened 30 years ago, 10 years ago or last week. These layoff and new hours are the new reality. Unless you signed some sort of contract and were guranteed some sort of hours then this is the new normal. Just like they can change your benefits, retirement, and job code they can change the definition of what the company considers full time.

This is not a labor board issue, this is a company trying to survive a little longer.

You talk as if your are from the HR Dept. Full-time has always been 30 hours and benefits, Personal Holiday 4 a year. FTA30 is 30 hours a week or more. When my store closed down in March I was given a severance of 35 hours a week. I only received 8 weeks of severance the max for over 18 years. To all of the associates that are not getting 30 hours and your status says that your are full-time. Contact the labor board.

Unless the rules have changed, when I started at Sears over 18.5 years ago, a full-time associates was guaranteed 30 or more hours a week. We also had some associates that were grandfathered, they received 40 hours a week. Full-time hours for retail work in the mid 90's went from 40 hours a week to 30 hours a week. With that being said, people it's time to leave Sears.

To all those who keep saying Full times gets this and full time gets that. FIrst of all, full time does not equal hours. So to say that full time has to get 30 hours you never read your SHC handbook. The only thing that gives you any full time status is that you can get benefits.

Second, there is nothing illegal about making full time less than 40 or 30 hours. Obviously, you have never read the fine print in your employee handbook. Plenty of people right now are considered full time as to benefits but are only getting less than 30 hours a week.

We have "full time" people in our store who only work 20-25 hours. They have been with the company for more than 30 years and they get benefits but they dont get the hours.

So you say they are guaranteed 30 hours. Go ahead and try to push that one. I have never read the Golden Rods where it says that such and such a job is guranteed a certain amount of hours and I have never seen anyone work those hours.

Also, you might want to see the Simple Store emails, Golden Rods and handbooks. These have not only the new positions but also the new hours that each position is suppose to work. This is a plan that has been years in the making and now has come home to roost. Not saying you should leave your job but really, get informed with what is going on. This is not a secret, the information has been out there for at least a year or longer. Read the financial articles on SHC to figure out what is next. Good luck

A coordinator is a full-time associates, and they are guaranteed 30 hours or more a week. I was a fine jeweler coordinator, so I know what is guaranteed as a full-time associates. A coordinator get paid a little lower than a lead. No associates should be using their vacation time to make a 30 hour work week. Please contact HR 88Sears, or the labor board

What I like to know @RshRnst-1hje is if your full time you are required to get the bare minimum of 30 hours. If you don't you can contact HR say they don't do nothing you contact labors commission and I pretty sure this would shake things up.

You will never get 30 hours unless you are managment. IF you are full time you might max out at 28 but most likely 25 hours. Everyone else will be maxed out at 15-20 hours. I used to get 32 hours consistantly as a part timer and when they started all the cuts about a year ago I am lucky to get 15 hours now. No overtime, no going over 30, no working off your schedule, no clocking in or out late, no missing lunch breaks. Do any of these more than 3 times or some amount of points and you will be terminated.

@1wbn- Yep, that is the way it used to be. Now it is max 30 and they only thing that really designates you as a full timer is that they offer you benefits. Most full timers in our store are only working 25 hours. Many take their vacation days to make up for the loss of hours. It is now starting at sears what Kmart has been doing for the last 2 years. There are no more guaranteed hours. That is the reason for getting rid of the full time positions and leads and making them coordinators.

@iwbn- this is 2018 transformation has started!

the “rules” in your post unfortunately are no longer!

Nothing is guaranteed anymore , maximum hours are 30 hours for the management that just received new titles and demotions and I heard pay will be reduced to minimum wage.

There will be 3 sectors of sears transformation in the store

Store support - which includes updates to 991s OOS and duties of shoes and back room

Sales support - consists of original cashiers and mcas but only mcas will be required to multi task and will ring at register push freight clean registers help members fold and size tables and racks and other duties

Bulls___t department - which will be the store manager harping to the minions about why they can’t meet these metrics, why aren’t you getting credit syw sign ups and any other micromanaging they dream up

A full-time associates is guaranteed 30 hours a week. That was the rule. If your are not getting 30 hours a week, I would talk to the HR Dept at 88Sears. You will get 2 personal holidays starting in Feb, another in May, and the last one will be August. Also health benefits, paid holidays, and time -n-half if you work on a holiday. You can not call your self a full-time associates if you are not getting full-time hours. 30 or more a week. Don't forget about your vacation hours, for full-time associates. I should know I worked for Sears 18 years, until my store was closed. March 2017.

Yep. Full time 30 will mean you will actually be scheduled for 25 and if they need you for the 30 they wont go over their salary allotment. But for the most part you will only get 30 at Christmas. Most of the full time 30 in our store only get 15-20 now and it increases as we go to spring.

Each week the percentage of what the store can spend on salary will vary depending on the sales. So expect alot of schdule changes, sometimes a few times a week.
