After working there just shy of 10 years & in multiple departments, I grew more & more fed up with WS. There would be layoffs of great employees & then they'd practically drain those that were left by piling on the work (with no training btw). I finally bowed out gracefully almost 2 yrs ago. Came to find out the replacement I helped train was let go not too long after (That could've been me). I'm glad to feel valued where I'm at now. My thoughts are with those laid off & those left to clean up the mess.

I voted against the REIT...my beliefs were Windstream was in dire or need financially and they came up with the REIT as a creative way of hide their money fiasco!
I think a lot of people missed the fact that the REIT deal was not really about the whole leaseback situation. Unless you read the fine print and understood it, you voted to allow it.
But what you missed was the fact that in that fine print, everyone gave up their shares of stock to the Windstream entity that controlled everything. You also gave the board members the right to not have to bring a vote to the shareholders when a major decision was needed.
That's right! You gave up your voice in the company and agreed to let Tony and the boys make the decisions that affect you without your vote being needed!
When was the last time you received a notice to cast your vote?? I'll tell you. Probably about 3 or 4 years ago when all of the top brass and peon managers were saying how important it was for you to cast your vote in favor of the REIT.
Remember That? I bet you do now!
I've been with the company for several years now, the layoffs never make any sense with who goes and who stays. I've seen worthless people keep there jobs and get promoted to engineering positions, while seeing unconventional people let go that were extremely knowledgable.
I've always told people here to learn as much as you can and be ready to go somewhere else. Always be preparing for the next layoff, a week before a layoff is not the time to decide to start studying.
I genuinely feel bad for those who think that they can just be comfortable doing a simple job, anything that can be replaced with automation is not safe.
Have agree, Win is a meat grinder. Still continue to shake my head when thinking about how they sold their fiber and physical plant to CS&L. It made them unattractive to any buyer.
