OK, this post will probably be long, I have held off on commenting on here, but after reading some of the comments, I have to put in my two cents. First, I am an HCMRN with over 25 yrs of experience, Ive worked in hospitals, home health agencies, sales, doctors offices, etc, so lets just say, Ive been around.
I have worked at Humana in this role long enough to know a few things, I have seen 5 rounds of layoffs, I have been under a few coaches, I have to say that there really hasnt been one day that I didnt feel blessed to have this job and work from home. Most hospital nurses would kill for our job, heck, in fact most any nurse would kill for our job. We get paid pretty well for what we do. Yes its boring at times but overall, I can not say anything bad about Humana. This company is no different than any other insurance giant. I have interviewed with Blue Cross, and lost the position to someone less qualified due to being a non minority. So if you think by any stretch that Humana is discriminatory , look around out there, there is much more discrimination at other companies. Humana has given me a good salary for years, I never missed getting paid, they gave me the freedom to take my child to school everyday for the last few years and be home when they get home , which is wonderful, Humana approved and paid for some surgery that I had, that other insurance companies probably would not have.
I am personally grateful for the time I have spent at Humana, if they lay me off, I would be sad, maybe a little upset, but I can in all honesty say that I have worked hard in this role , done my best and I feel like it has been a good reciprocal relationship. I dont want it to end, but if it does, then, guess what, another door will open and its my time to change jobs.
Those of you who didnt see this coming, not sure how or why, the writing has been on the wall all along, especially since the last layoff in November. We all knew, or should have known, that the next round was coming after first quarter and enrollment numbers were in and they had time to process them. Those of you who really have your feelings hurt over this must have never worked in corporate America. Business is the name of the game, of course, do you really think that these CEO's are going to loose sleep over us ? I mean that is really naive. Does it matter that almost every hospital out there wants RN's to work every other weekend, and holidays?? That is horrible. Plus the hospitals could care even less about you than Humana does. Lets face it, everyone is out for themselves. Its called life people!!!!!! Its called business, they really didnt even have to let us know at all, and I for one would rather know a couple weeks in advance , heck with notice, severence and PTO I would have literally like 6 months to find another job, so , it could be much worse, seriously.
I have family members in the pharma industry, when they get RIF'd, they know weeks in advance and then have to stay home the day of notification and sit by the phone for hours , until they get the call as to whether they have a job or not, RIF's s---, that is life!! NO matter what company or how its done. Do you guys really think that they are going to tell us exactly how many are going? As far as the coaches go, yes, they were asked to evaluate all of their team, which Im sure they didnt want to do, but their heads are also on the block, the COM's are evaluating them too........ Everyone is either at the top or the middle or the bottom of their team, its the way it goes. Those that are satisfied doing a mediocre job on a daily basis, barely making expectations, or skating by not really working this job as they should because there is no manager looking over their shoulder daily, then you may end up on the bottom, if you try to exceed metrics daily, do your best daily, go over and above, make yourself a quality team member, then you are probably noticed for it. If you are a good time manager and you are organized and keep your roster controlled well and your calls are timely then you will be rewarded hopefully. Im pretty sure that Humana isnt going to RIF all the talent and keep all the people who are performing at minimal expectations, we all have known that we are in competition with one another from day one, its like that in every job, you are always in competition with people , either directly or indirectly. If you are mediocre than you have possibly determined your own destiny. I , for one, hope that Humana keeps those that have worked their butts off trying to exceed and go above and beyond, its only right, and those who have never been able to master the art of being able to do this job and meet metrics timely and fulfill the expectations, , should be
the ones that go.
Anyone that wants to jump ship or thinks they maybe on the bottom of the pack, then by all means, start looking, get a head start on the rest of us. If you plan to stay and possibly collect severance and take your chances, then log in as you normally would, call your members, put on big boy/girl pants and do your job, which should keep your mind off of the RIF, or do what those mediocre people will do and barely work until you get notification. Either way, we are all frustrated, but at least be honest about the time you have been with Humana, quit the HORROR feelings about how the company is doing us all wrong, ITS CALLED BUSINESS!!! Geez, the company can be accused of some bad business decisions, but to be fair, EVERY company I have ever been with could be accused of the same, especially in an ever changing healthcare market where no one really knows what is to be expected. I know we all are upset, worried and the like, but at least lets be realistic with expectations of the company.
