Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Stop the bleeding

The company has to be hemorrhaging somewhere, to have the need to let so many people go so frequently. With the new tax laws in place now, they should be seeing enough savings they shouldn't have to do this. I heard on the news today that Apple has given each of their employees $2500 in stock options because the new tax law will save them that much or more and they want to share some of it with their employees. What a concept!

Rebranding....pffft!

I was part of the RIF in November. No job yet, but still much happier.

Lay people off then buy a company which gives them more people and equipment so they can build their network and lay more people off and around we go

It's a public traded company. This is how telecom is and anyone that has worked in telecom for years knows or shouldn't be surprised by layoffs. If you've managed to stay at the same company for 10+ your doing pretty good actually. ATT/Sprint/Verizon, etc all the big ones usually layoff about 2-3 times a year. Cutting headcount, is a faster way to show an increase in capital, in a short window, then trying to cut-down the cost of the network. It's all about the numbers and the people holding all mass amounts of stock. Telecom companies get bigger by swallowing smaller companies, it's cheaper to get their network and/or customer base, than build from the ground up. It's the name of the game when your in a public company. This will not change. Sad but true.

About 150 were walked out and a total of 400 were laid off. About 600 more to go in the coming weeks. it is not over. From a viable source from high up in the company on a basis of anonymity. Total savings from all rounds, including 2017, is about $100Mil. The company is changing and Tony T’s days are numbered.

Well WS managed to get some debt relief and the first thing they did was buy yet another company proceeded by this huge layoff. Seems to me all the company acquisitions are the hemorrhage.
