Thread regarding IBM layoffs

When are layoffs supposed to start?

Was just wondering when these 10,000 cuts are going to start taking place?

I've seen the number circulated all around, but no date attached to it (might have missed it, but I don't think so.)

And is this truly going to be limited to GTS, or should other IBM groups be worried we'll get caught in the crossfire?

Can't say where I heard it, but trust me it starts next week and it is not just GTS & GBS.

-3dlu Everyone I've seen here and on other boards reports an immediate feeling of elation and long-term they feel happy they left, usually going on to jobs at much better companies that value them. Most report it's the best thing that happened to them. Why the blank would anyone want to go back and beg for more abuse at IBM??

If your job at IBM has been cut or outsourced then you should speak to a manager about possible reinstatement. My personal experience working at IBM is to talk to a manager to rectify the issue and ultimately retain your position at Big Blue. Speaking to an IBM manager solves all problems.

You need to identify the IBMer who made the decision to eliminate your job—admittedly this might be difficult—and then have a word with the manager about how his or her subordinate had you fired. IBM managers never side with their employees in these types of situations, ostensibly because it makes themselves look resolute and determined before their own superiors.

Please note you will probably speak with an IBM general manager or a vice president but there is no other option if you hope to stay at the company. This loophole is the only realistic way of saving your job at IBM.

Greetings. I believe you are looking at the CFO replacement incorrectly. IBM had to replace their CFO if the old CFO is to become the new CEO sometime in 2018. IBM has a history of replacing from within, and since the board isn’t asking for Ginni’s head, I believe she is just executing the CEO grooming process. In addition, IBM has another great tradition of talking down the stock and then over delivering. This is the way CEO’s exit stage right from IBM. Sam did it, And Lou did it. My guess is Ginni is now doing it. The mainframe revenue should be enough cushion to show growth. It seems Wall Street is buying that story (note analysts upgrades recently) and if Ginni can right size IBM while the new CEO gets groomed so be it. ALSO note the blood letting from the IBM right sizing is going to be bigger and uglier than expected. IBM wants to change it’s image. That means all “legacy” must go. Never mind that the “new” IBM may not have a clue as to what they want to be when they grow up. Dumping legacy just makes IBM more attractive to whoever decides to have a vision for IBM. The blood letting right sizes IBM into a digestible part (look at EMC/Dell). Put on your asbestos underwear as the new CEO will be all about maximizing share holder value. Employees, divisions, strategy be damned

IBM announces 4Q results tomorrow (Thurs) at 4pm, with a replacement CFO, so likely the news won't be good, and that will perhaps result in a nosedive of the stock. I'm betting the layoffs are Friday, to try to get the stock price back up, because wall street loves a good layoff, the bigger the better. That's probably when the rest of the reorg info will get to everyone who is left, as far as what team they're on.

The IBM cube was removed from the corner of West 7th and Locust streets in downtown Dubuque on Wednesday to make way for the construction of a new, 16-foot monument outside the Roshek Building.

I am not buying it was removed for a monument when IBM's contract is almost up in Dubuque and now especially with the talks of 10k RA's on the horizon.

"Legacy" is still the cash cow that keeps the rest afloat.

GTS and GBS combining???? So take the next logical step. IBM is going to harvest the strategic initiatives guys and dump “everyone” else in a BAIN spin-off. I believe we have seen this movie (HPE / CSC). If you net it out, IBM withdrawals from the legacy / outsourcing / slowly shrinking services business and moves into the higher PE ratio business. My guess is IBM shrinks to 60-65 billion, but gets a higher PE so everything comes out in the wash, and the spin-off is just found money

GTS and GBS are combining into one "IBM Services" so a ton of layoffs, especially managers, likely there. My manager confirmed that RAs are imminent, some may be happening already in the aforementioned areas - services, tech sales, sales, cloud, watson, etc.

My group (technical sales) was eliminated, some were moved to other groups, others were told we don't have jobs. No RA yet - in a holding pattern.

For sure it will be soon, because they just opened registration for the fast start internal training in Vegas week of Feb 19 and won't want folks making travel arrangements to go there if they're going to get cut. Travel usually has to be made a month in advance to get good prices.

Based on signals I'm getting, I'd bet it's either this week sometime or at least we'll know this week exactly when it is. There are meetings this week but it's unclear if those are to kick it off or set the dates/parameters. It's supposed to be GTS, tech sales, perhaps other organizations.
