Co Manager Update

CoManagers, Thank you for a job well done, thru the Holidays and the Year!

These changes are coming about after you have worked extremely hard long, hours and taken time away from your family through the Holidays! Also, after you have probably given up PTO and time off through the year as well.

This is very confidential Information, and all have been threatened that if there is a leak and they can find the individual, they will be terminated. WOW!! What transparency! Maybe the new leadership should learn the Culture! Respect for the Individual, be honest, forth coming and keep the open discussion environment. The UNVARNISHED TRUTH should work both ways and not just up! Maybe your Regional, Market or Store Manager should look to trust in you and tell you the truth if not is this the type of Company that you want to work for?

The Unvarnished Truth!!

  1. Meetings held last Friday with all Mkt Managers, Mkt Human Resource Managers and all Store Managers. (Remember the level of talent in these positions: Several have never run stores at the Market level, but will be making the decision for the future!)

a. Talent discussions were held on all CoManagers. Very subjective discussions and not a very

level set meeting. A lot of favoritism, and buddy system playing out.

b. Not all of the best were selected, a lot of good talent will be lost in this process and not even

be retained as assistant managers. What a drain on talent again.

c. CoManagers were banded within the following catagories:

RED - Not retained or gets immediate severance pay and no time to look for a job. If you

have a coaching then you will fall into this category.

YELLOW - You will get an option to demote to an assistant manager; or 60 days pay and

severence.

GREEN - You will be offered a position. It may not be in your current store; or 60 days pay

and severence.

  1. All Regionals held a conference call with all Mkt Teams, Store Managers, and CoManagers. Basically gave the WalMart talking points.

a. Not a long term position, must be actively applying for stores and has a 3 year longevity.

b. Store Volumes and placement of CoManagers:

$80 million to $90 million dollars in sales = 1 CoManager position

$90 million to $125 million dollars in sales = 2 CoManager positions

$125 million and above in sales dollars = 3 CoManager positions

  1. All levels of management have been through this process Divisionals, Regionals, Mkt Managers, and their counter parts in Asset Protection, Health & Wellness, and Human Resources. (Though most at the Regional level above were given preference options).

  2. All the 1700 Assistant Manager positions that will be added will be in Online Pickup and Grocery Pickup and will not be immediate.

  3. There were Regional Hiring events for assistant manager placement back in November and December. Why if they new that this was coming? This was not dreamed up after New Years.

  4. The week of Christmas there was information that came out in reference to the Policy change on Voluntary Demotion Request regarding Management. Wow there must be a lot looking to get out. Now this change.

You should always be prepared with a resume and the leave for a better opportunity. A lot will stay through this process and be caught up in the same process in future years. Use your time to better yourself and get out of this Company and go somewhere that you will be valued.

GOOD LUCK and WISH ALL WELL with the outcome and the process!!

Yes, take it and run. Get as far away as possible. If you have been with the company for over 15 years and are over 55 years old don't forget to ask for the long term discount card. Or over 20 years of service and you leave ask for your long term discount card. At least you can take your 10%.

Was this true about APMs being offered a severance in lieu of becoming an assistant manager?

APMs will become Asset Protection Assistant Manager. Will report directly to the store manager, will work the same schedules as an assistant manager, and all the same basic assistant manager functions on the flooralong with their specifics. 2 closing, 1 mid, and 2 open shifts per week, one full weekend off, one full weekend working. Will become part of the store Assistant Manager structure but will not rotate areas as assistant managers rotate areas, they will stay in role specific positions. Store managers will do their evals with input from MAPMs (currently it is the other way around).

Hopefully all APMs have a good relationship with their Store Manager, if not, life may have just gotten tough. Always maintain a professional relationship in your business, respect all associates. You never know who will be in charge next.

MAPM and Mkt HR roles were eliminated at Sam's Club, may look for this to happen in the future.

APM being eliminated? How reliable is that information?

Wal-Mart Asset Protection Managers are being eliminated too and will either be given the option to take an assistant manager position or 60 days severance pay in a lump sum payment

I am personally no longer with Walmart but check this board periodically out of fear for my WM friends. I was laid off last year and I can tell you that even if you think you have the most necessary-to-the-survival-of-the-company job, you're still not safe. What's more: it's up to your manager's discretion if they want to try to find another position to transition you into prior to your displacement meeting. In that instance, even if you have a great personal AND professional relationship with your manager, get Exceeds Expectations in your evals, and have a stack of accolades from other management and associates you've supported.... at the end of the day, if the manager just doesn't want to be bothered with trying to help you out, he/she doesn't have to. They can just show you the door. My advice to everyone is to accept the possibility that you could be next and go ahead and start processing that, to save your emotions from getting the best of you in the situation. If you don't get impacted, great-- keep up the good work and have a great day. If you do get impacted, then you've already taken the first step in trying to wrap your mind around it and maybe already have a game plan in place. Most importantly, remember that this isn't personal. If it were, you'd be fired-- not laid off with job-search time and a severance package.

Best of luck to all of my former WM family. I miss you all every day and wish the best to you. If your time is up in the next week or two, trust me when I say that there IS life after Walmart and you WILL be ok.
